Bush Called for Jury Duty in Waco
How can he do jury duty when he won't go under oath?

Bush Called for Jury Duty in Texas

WACO, Texas -
President Bush could get a new title: juror No. 286. Someday, but not Monday, when he was summoned for jury duty.

The president was among 600 potential jurors summoned to report to court in McLennan County, where his 1,600-acre Crawford ranch is located.

State District Judge Ralph Strother told the Waco Tribune-Herald he expected to get a response about the summons but didn't expect Bush to report for duty.

"I don't think I'll be sending the sheriff out to bring the president in," said Strother, a Republican who has a grandson serving in
Iraq. "It seems to me that the president has plenty of things to occupy his attention. Jury duty is a very important civic function, but running the country, I think, especially in wartime, takes priority over jury service

6. Even if the defendant was being tried for jaywalking or drunk driving or
stealing cigarettes from a convenience store, Bush would vote for the death penalty.

13. "The president has plenty of things to occupy his attention"?
Like what? Besides, the Supreme Court has unanimously decided that performing the civic duties of any other citizen is no hardship even on the president, when they required Clinton to be deposed in a civil lawsuit. I think Chimpy could take a break from his relentless vacation schedule to familiarize himself with the inside of a courtroom. That kind of information might come in handy someday. Someday soon.

15. It's not like the judge has a choice here.
Separation of powers immunizes the President from these sorts of duties; he cannot be compelled to participate in the judicial system while he serves. It's an obvious fact. So obvious, in fact, that acting like he has an option to decide to send the sheriff out. I mean, it's real simple: he'll get told that the President cannot be compelled to serve on a jury duty, so please, drop the summons like a responsible judge.

Much ado about nothing.
