Democrats to Hold Spring Meeting In New Orleans

Washington, DC - Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean
announced today that the 2006 DNC Spring Meeting will be held in New
Orleans, Louisiana from April 20-22, 2006. The decision to hold the next
DNC meeting in New Orleans is part of the Democratic Party's commitment
to rebuilding the Gulf Coast and rebuilding the American community. DNC
members from around the country will gather at the Sheraton New Orleans
hotel, overlooking the Mississippi river, for the first of their
biannual meetings of 2006.

DNC Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement:

"Today I am pleased to announce the Democratic Party's small effort to
help rebuild New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region. I look forward to
joining Democrats from all across the country in a revitalized New
Orleans for the 2006 DNC Spring Meeting.

"Democrats are committed to rebuilding the Gulf Coast, and to
rebuilding America's sense of community. Our nation was founded on the
notion that we have a responsibility to each other, a shared investment
in one another, and the belief that we should leave no one behind. The
American people are heroes for coming together the way they did after
Hurricane Katrina, and being extraordinarily generous in a time of
crisis. We are honored to be a part of that. Together, America can do
better."

Mods this is an official press release from the DNC. The press is just getting this, too, so I've posted it here without a news source. Hope that's ok. This is a positive step for the rebuilding of New Orleans and I thought it should be in LBN.

1. Sounds like a really good idea
Will they get any press coverage while there?

Maybe DU should hold its first annual nationwide meeting there too?

8. Is the Democratic Convention more important than helping the
city of New Orleans thrive? It is the one place in America which has a flavor for the continental while mixing the music of the world into one big sugar powdered beignet. Is being in New Orleans going to stop us from selecting our candidates? New Orleans is my number one choice

10. Someone clue me in on what Olbermann was saying about this.
I was in the kitchen and only caught a bit. He sounded sort of critical, something about PR. I was thinking what did he mean? Of course it is PR, but it is about making a statement about rebuilding an area of our country. That is something the GOP is not prone to address.
