Gay Arabs may face hormone injections

More than two dozen gay Arab men -- arrested at what police called a mass homosexual wedding -- could face government-ordered hormone treatments, five years in jail and a lashing, authorities said Saturday.

The Interior Ministry said police raided a hotel chalet this month and arrested 22 men from the Emirates as they celebrated the wedding ceremony.

The men are likely to be tried under Muslim law on charges related to adultery and prostitution, said Interior Ministry spokesman Issam Azouri.

The 26 men arrested have been questioned and were undergoing psychological evaluations Saturday. Azouri said the Interior Ministry's department of social support will try to direct the men away from homosexual behavior, using methods including male hormone injections.

I think most gay Arabs would be offended at the idea that they would be traitors to their country, as most gay Americans in the 1950's would have been offended by the same assumption. Even people who are getting a raw deal from their nation or culture tend to be patriotic, when it comes right down to it.

The first comment suggested that hormone "therapy" is simply retarded as it would just make the men more sexual, and the second comment elaborated that the warped logic behind administering testosterone is that some of the people in question were trannies, presumably to counteract their "femininity." Nowhere did anyone condone this practice!

They are locals... after a stern talking to by the authorities they will be released. Any non-emiratis will be deported. There is, actually, quite a strong gay community in Dubai.

These guys crossed the unspoken line here of doing something that would embarass the government.

Honestly, I have to say, they were acting as if it were Key West, or San Francisco. Try this in rural ________________ (fill in the blank with a U.S. state) and see what would happen. No doubt the police would show-up there too.

Anyway, I will post any follow-up story to this. I certainly know you won't get it in the West. MSM almost exclusively publishes the crappy stuff about living here in the Middle-east

It's always easy to attack the marginal. _Forcing_ them to take hormones is cruel. If bush had balls, which he doesn't, he should boycott. Instead the arse is likely to be thrilled..
