Senate GOP lays out 2006 agenda
Senate GOP lays out 2006 agenda
November 25, 2005

CONCORD, N.H. --Republicans in the state Senate plan to spend the next legislative session cracking down on companies that hire illegal immigrants, enacting a tax break for business owners and requiring new voters to show identification at the polls.

"This is an aggressive agenda. We've set forth our goals as a Republican caucus based on the critical issues facing the Granite State, and we are committed to working together to accomplish our objectives," said Senate President Ted Gatsas, R-Manchester.

The agenda has a familiar look: many of the ideas show up on a list put out by House Republicans and some resemble the priorities of top Democrats in the Senate.

"I am hopeful this is yet another sign that we'll work well together next year," said Sen. Peter Burling, D-Cornish.

2. Note to Sen. Burling....
Please refer back to all the other times you hoped that Republicans would "work well together" with you and your fellow Democrats.

How did those turn out? Did they help you advance any causes you cared about? Or did they subvert them for their own special-interest groups? Or did they wait til you held out your hand and then kicked you in the nuts?

Get real, man...Waiting for this bunch to "work with you" is about as fruitful as Linus waiting for the Great Pumpkin...

4. What's the problem??

We've had to show a form of ID here in CT. for the past 5 or more years !! I think Georgias' problem was charging poor folks for an ID if they didn't have one already. We allow a drivers license to be used, or a Library card or something with your name and address on it. In my opinion, a national ID card is a good idea, and should be provided free by the States. Just as a Grocery Store gives you a free Store Savings card that is scanned!! "One person, one vote" !! P.S. and that's not just for "new voters" it's for ALL voters!!

5. The feds can't do anything... Voting is a states rights issue...
that has always been the case... This is why the confirmation hearings of Alito are so critical... He believes that the clause in the Constitution, the right to govern interstate commerce, sited over and over as the legal and constitutional underpinning of laws enacted by Congress, is not meant as a carte blanche justification for laws as varied as the Clean Water Act, the Voting Rights Acts, the Federal Unemployment Act and on and on....
