Iraq: One week, more than 180 dead
http://www.mg.co.za/articlePage.aspx?articleid=257717&area=/breaking_news/breaking_news__international_news/

Iraqi officials have promised to deploy up to 10 000 extra men to boost security ahead of a December 15 general election after a rebel bombing campaign killed more than 180 people in the past week.

The latest attacks, a suicide car bomb against a hospital in Mahmudiyah, south of Baghdad, on Thursday, killed 30. A car bomb in a shopping district of Hilla, also on Thursday, left three dead and 16 wounded.

An increase in violence is widely expected before the election, the final stage in Iraq's transition to democracy after the overthrow of Saddam Hussein in April 2003.

United States forces, meanwhile, have just concluded a three-week operation, code-named Iron Curtain, in western Iraq designed to root out insurgent strongholds near the Syrian border.

1. I thought it was code named operation 'Steel Curtain'.....
I guess the article referring to it as operation "Iron Curtain" is a Freudian slip.

5. Bad plan
Those terrorist bombers never existed in Iraq. During Iron Curtain U.S. forces killed 700 of them.

700 dead for what. They could have operated more effectively in their home countries. End the violence.

6. US forces killed 700 Iraqis
most were civilians killed by US bombing raids while sleeping innocently in their own beds. Much like Vietnam the US distorts and warps body counts to show "we are winning".

7. I'm not sure I follow you
In whose country would they be more effective? Saying that the insurgent ranks are made up of foreign fighters has shown to be an untruth. There are some foreigners in Iraq, most of the foreign terrorist happen to come from the u.s. and britian.

4. How pathetic is this?
A topic detailing the fact that 180 Iraqis have been killed in a WEEK, and it's got a couple of responses in a few hours.

Of course, they're JUST Iraqi civilians.

You know, if 180 American troops were killed in a week, how many responses would the topic receive?

It's natural of course, American troops are superior to just some average Iraqi civilians, no biggie, it happens all the time, ya know...

9. THAT, in my opinion, cuts to the VERY HEART of the issue.

During the 2004 debates we all saw Kerry mop the floor with the Cheerleader-in-Chief. But did Kerry ever mention the dead or injured Iraqis? Of course not, and he's still sounding like an apologist for the war by speaking in terms of "success in Iraq".

As long as the lapdog media refuse to show the death and destruction that America has wrought the war can be waged indefinitely.

Americans NEED that shock, since it really would shame them into questioning their own humanity.
