...He said corporate America is emboldened in opposing unions because there are no penalties for employers who harass, intimidate and discriminate against workers who try to form or join them...

Sweeney recounted a meeting with the president-elect in 2000 in which Sweeney noted that labor leaders dating back to the days of FDR had maintained a dialogue with the president. Bush responded that he wanted to continue the connection.

"That was the last conversation I had with George W. Bush," Sweeney said...

Hiatt said the National Labor Relations Board may be gearing up to move against unions' most-deployed technique for organizing - enlisting members through "card check/neutrality."..

1. Workers' rights were won in the streets
And that's the only way they're going to be kept.

2. Labor Laws were created for Honorable Americans
but, corporate powers are never honorable.

My family has been in 'Unions' since the 1930's and, from my own experience, the corporate powers systematically abuse the laws.

They know, just as soon as they are caught and fined for abuses(after many yrs of costly litigation to the Unions), they return to re-abuse again and again. The penalties are never personal enough to stop the company's abuse. They weigh out the legal costs and realize they can make more money by continuing the abuse and keeping the unions in court litigation. RARELY, will the courts judge the companies on thier abuse record...the companies start fresh with every charge. This has got to stop.
