Cheney's Job Approval at 36% (Gallup Poll)

Cheney's Job Approval at 36%
Vice president's ratings similar to Bush's, but less polarized

GALLUP NEWS SERVICE

PRINCETON, NJ -- The latest CNN/USA Today/Gallup survey finds a 36% job approval rating for Vice President Dick Cheney, just a point lower than the job rating for President George W. Bush. While some observers have speculated that the vice president is losing popularity because of the indictment of his closest aide, Lewis "Scooter" Libby, the poll suggests that Cheney's ratings and Bush's ratings are closely tied to each other. Cheney's low rating in the most recent poll may be partially a result of the publicity surrounding Libby's indictment, but if that's the case, the Libby situation has most probably affected Bush as well.

Gallup has measured Cheney's job approval six times since Bush first assumed the presidency, and on five of the six occasions, the ratings of the two men were very similar.

The one exception occurred in January 2002, just four months after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, when the country rallied around the president. That rally effect apparently did not extend as completely to the vice president, though his rating was higher at that time than at any other period Gallup has measured.

...

The poll also shows that a majority of Americans, 52%, rate Cheney's advice to the president as "bad," which "has created problems for the administration." Another 34% say his advice has been good and "has helped the administration."

9. Dickhead WAS on 19% last week
Heck I can't think what AMAZING things Dickie's done the past week in order for him to jump up 17% in the polls.

Gallup must be using some of that special sauce in their polls.

14. Dickhead?
Not one to mince words are you, ...of J. Temperance? :)

Yes, something is a odd with this. Cheney was lower even during the election, I believe. He's never really had much of an approval rating, not that he cares. He knows playing bad cop doesn't give you too nice of an image. Odd poll result, for sure.

16. No I'm not...never seen the Dickhead wearing a hat though
What's that? Did I say hat? Tut tut :spank:

Obviously Gallup is just flat out lying. I've noticed a trend with Gallup polls, they always have the Repukes higher, and if you look at how many people they've polled and the political party breakdown, they always seem to poll more Repukes than anyone else.

Nobody believes that Cheney's on 36%, the Gallup poll is just fishwrap. Next thing is they'll be telling us Junior's shot up to 48% after his "successful" Asian trip...you know more people now like him because he fell off his bicycle AGAIN and walked into a locked door and looked like a doofus.

Oh man, I just had to go there, didn't I?

He fell off his bike again? :: groan :: Oh lord, that guy just needs to give it up. Ride a stationary bike, take walks. Something else. He's dangerous on that thing, lol. Was it in Scotland when he ran into that cop? That was hilarious, oh what a dunce.

That locked door thing was classic. I don't remember Bill Clinton doing dumb stuff like that ever. You would think some of that stuff could happen to anybody, but Bush just seems to find a way to do something embarrassing. It's the only thing he's ever been good at.

21. Ha!
I congratulate you for that EXCELLANT response :)

Junior should only be allowed on bicycles that have training wheels. This has got to be about the ninth time he's fallen off. Yes, at the G8 in Scotland the idiot went for a bicycle ride and rode straight into a policeman...and the poor policeman had to go and have hospital treatment.

There need to be signs saying: "Danger Keep Clear! Moron on bicycle"

It's been constant embarrassment, he's got no class at all, President Clinton was a class-act, someone to be proud of when he went abroad.

The locked door thing was one of the funniest things I've seen...just when you thought he couldn't get stupidier, he does.

:)

Bush is a total rube. I think the funniest screw up of his I ever saw was when he wrecked that idiot-proof segway. It was designed to be unwreckable, but somehow that dumbass managed to figure out a way, lol.

Hey, I'm accident prone myself, but I don't go looking for trouble like he does. :)

I know you wouldn't go looking for trouble...Junior's a 24-ct asshole and you're NOT...so there's the difference.

26. Yes, Cheney is lovable isn't he?
Especially when he refers to his enemies, or some pesky reporter asking once again about his ties to Halliburton.

His lower lip droops and turns into a snarl. His teeth stick out, just like an old horse I used to know. Old Jonke did that when he was going to reach out for a branch to chew on. His lips would stretch out, and you could see his green and brown teeth in his mouth. Disgusting.

Disgusting man, as well.

18. You forget about the 7.5% fudge factor and the 30% that own
Halliburton & The Carlyle Group stock. Cheney can't count the friends he has on one hand.

Richard Cheney will soon be facing War Crimes, nothing sad about that!

38. Note the operation of the "rule of thirds"
Edited on Mon Nov-21-05 04:33 PM by Dancing_Dave
At the begining of the graph, Dick and Chimp are supported by about 2/3 of the people who agreed to participate in the poll, at the end it's about 1/3.

I've noticed this range of variation for a number of years now. Among those at least engaged enough to vote in Presidential elections and answer some opinion polls, there seem to be one 1/3 who are solidly Republican, 1/3 who are solidly Democratic, and 1/3 who, for a very wide variety of reasons are not really settled into either party. These people seem to be a bit more concentrated in the Western half or so of the country. Watch for some surprises in Western states in the 1996 elections...and probably some Eastern states too.

The political temperature in this country has increased enough that I think a lot of that "middle third" WILL turn out for the next congressional election, even if they've skipped some in the past.
Polling results seem to indicate that a lot of these people could swing Democratic, but a lot depends on the particular canidates they have to choose between and so on.

These people do express themselves on the internet, and it's worth hearing what they have to say.
