Boeing to Cut Up to 5,000 Jobs
SEATTLE (Reuters) - Boeing Co. (NYSE:BA - news), the world's largest aircraft maker, on Thursday said it would fire 4,000 to 5,000 workers from its Seattle-based commercial jet unit by the end of 2003, adding to the 35,000 job cuts since the Sept. 11 attacks.

(more...but not much more)

2. Also, I read that outsourcing jobs
saves jobs. So, I guess this is evidence of some of the jobs saved by a lot of outsourcing.

Doesn't anyone worry about who will be left to buy things?

3. This is the final nail in Gov. Locke's coffin.
And after the Governor put out a monumental effort to accomodate Boeing's demands to save Washington jobs, it's also a knife in his back.

Just like Gray Davis, he is being blamed for the evil behavior of corporations.

4. yup, how many jobs is that $3.2 billion package supposed to create?
We just offered them $3.2 billion to build the 7E7 here to "save jobs" or "create jobs", and the governor and his cronies said that for every 1 Boeing job, there are like 7 industry-related jobs created, so therefore, it was "worth" the extortion to try to get the 7E7.

so, Mr. Locke, if 5,000 more jobs are being lost, that means 35,000 more "related" jobs are being lost. If 20,000 Boeing jobs have been lost since 9/11, that means 140,000 related jobs have been lost.

Is it really worth $3.2 billion of our limited dollars to bribe Boeing to build a plane that so far no one has expressed interest in just to keep a measly few thousand jobs here? Boeing's track record is pretty clear to me.

5. Maybe their boy (Dumbya) shouldn't have pissed off the world
Maybe then Boeing would have received that 300 plane order that was awarded to Airbus a couple of months ago.
