Bush to hit back on intelligence

The White House on Thursday vowed to launch a "sustained attack" against Democrats over charges that the administration manipulated the pre-war intelligence on Iraq.

Dan Bartlett, counsellor to the president, told reporters in Gyeongju travelling with President George W. Bush in South Korea that the White House fight-back would be "sustained" in order to prevent Democratic charges about the way the administration led the country to war from becoming "conventional wisdom."

"There is a bright line there and it's one that the Democrats have crossed," he said.
"In the last couple of weeks it has reached critical mass. So we needed to respond."

...

Mr Bartlett, asked whether the White House attacks on the Democrats would only reinforce partisan divides in the US, said: "We are a politically divided nation."

64. If the Dems actually fight back
This could be a really good thing. I think Bush is counting on them to cower and equivocate again, like Kerry did in 2004.

He's a bully- always has been- but bullies always get their come uppanace when their victims decide to fight back.

Question is- have the Dems decided that they've had enough of being victims? I guess we shall see.

66. "If the Dems actually fight back"
I bet some are already packing their supplies to hide under their desks until it all blows over... Sorry, with the exception of a few that are usually shunned by the party, the democrats never stand up well to media attacks. They should be out there already, rather then waiting to see what is coming, and being defensive. I doubt they will ever learn that America will never trust them with security until they show America they are willing to stand up and fight.

president. We'll pipe down and let you have it for awhile. Go ahead - take yer best shot. We'll wait. ?

GOD I HOPE NOT!!!

Our guys have to STAY on attack mode, too. As long as THEY do it, WE do it. We must NOT let them gain any ground - otherwise MARK MY WORDS - bush's poll numbers will start going back up again. If that happens, we've lost the momentum, and it'll be hard to get back. Because at that point, the White House and the spin machine certainly will not let up.

DAMN! I wish I was in Harry Reid's office or Howard Dean's office at this very moment, kicking their butts like a master sergeant, to force 'em to stay awake...

70. NEVER underestimate the stupidity and gullibility, and short-term memory,
of the American people, though.

I wouldn't leave anything to chance, or get complacent. His numbers are indeed down. But people forget. Especially those hard-cores who are still of a mind to give him the benefit of the doubt. There are also people we mustn't forget about - who just want their guy (whoever it is) to be tough, and to fight - hard, and yes, even dirty. They're the ones who voted for bush because Kerry seemed wishy-washy to them ("I voted for the 87 billion before I voted against it"), and somehow, as ridiculous as it sounds, they resonated with the guy who told them "you may not agree with me but you know where I stand."

Now, I realize, that last statement would NOT be anywhere NEAR enough to sway me, and most people here, to throw caution to the wind and vote for bush - vote for someone with whom they so clearly disagreed - just because he sounded sure of himself. But I daresay people like us are in the minority. We forget - AT OUR PERIL - the people whose attitude is strictly "I know what I know." Or those who (like my own mother, for instance), when presented with fact after fact after fact, respond unenthusiastically - "well, I don't know... I just don't know..." and then go ahead anyway and support him. Or the people who were dug in on their mindsets (like some other moms I know) who, when presented with fact after fact after fact, mumble something like - "well, I'm getting wrong information here... I'm getting wrong information... (TILT!!!!)" and yet STILL shrug their shoulders and support him anyway. Or the people who insist he's "a good Christian man" - and that trumps EVERYTHING. Even the truth (!?!?). Or the people who are so in denial about what his policies will do/have done to destroy everything America stands for, because something like the destruction of Roe V Wade just "isn't gonna happen. Awwww. it's NOT gonna happen..." like those Jews in Germany who were just sure their demise was NOT imminent as that Hitler fellow just kept gaining power and they remained in denial. OR the people who (like this little old lady down the street) just always vote straight republi-CON - just BECAUSE (maybe their late husbands did, so that meant they did too, regardless) - and are now bewildered and upset by what's happening but old habits just die too hard.

I KNOW PEOPLE IN EVERY CATEGORY I DESCRIBED ABOVE. The ones with the wilfull Never-Vote-For-A-Democrat stubbornness (btw - such folks tend also to regard stubbornness as a virtue - a recent poll that found a majority saw bush as untruthful ALSO saw him as overwhelmingly stubborn - like maybe 84 percent or so), or in denial, or just so fed-to-the-point-of-puking by Pox "news" and limbaugh and other such vermin that they not only can't see, they simply WON'T see. What I fear is - if all they hear, from now on, is the White House attack mode, that WILL INDEED influence their opinions and they'll start returning to the fold.

I used to have more confidence in my fellow Americans - to recognize and appreciate the truth, and vote accordingly. Now, they not only don't get the truth, they're being encouraged and reinforced to believe in lies and propaganda, and take THAT as truth. Especially when that side is the only side they hear.

Which is why our Dems have to get out there MUCH more loudly and aggressively. WHERE ARE THEY THIS MORNING, for example? Are they out creating soundbites, or are they having some stupid-ass statement faxed out and then they figure they've done their bit?

DAMN! I do NOT want to be Mary Beth Cahill'ed, or Donna Brazile'd AGAIN. I want the junkyard dogs out there, in FULL FORCE!!!

33. Lost Trust
AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL
I cry for you my country
For something seems so very wrong
There’s a strident ugly note
In your once lovely song
Were not the kind of people
Who kill the children of the world
We’re not supposed to threaten countries
To get their vote to go to war
Go along with us or we’ll cut your aid
To feed your countries poor
What will history books relate
Of this country’s recent days, our shameful
And ignoble deeds, arrogant prideful ways?
Behind my eyes I see a picture
Babies with no arms or legs
Children screaming from the pain
Beside their mothers who are dead
When our bombers came and came
And dropped on them their hellish load
Because of the lies that we all bought
My God America! Just look at the evil
So mindlessly that you and I have wrought

We're getting better at getting the truth out to the people. These guns can be turned against the White House, but only if prominent Democrats go before the press on a daily basis to expose the lies being told.

11. Instead of attacking Democrats
Prove us wrong and do something right for once.

When I hear the GOP talking heads say "Bush hasn't done a good job selling the war", I could scream. If you use a sound & logical plan and execute it with the best military on the planet you don't have to sell anything. The solution to Iraq isn't a new PR strategy. The solution is a dose of reality & a new plan to get us out in a way that protects our troops and prevents any further harm to the Iraqi people.

It's like, look, jackass, the reason it isn't selling is because the product is SHIT. TOXIC shit. Get over yourself, admit you're wrong, and do something different. For fuck's sake.

...well, since that'll never happen, I guess may as well at least enjoy the show. Never saw such a bunch of murderous babies, though.

14. They're reduced to defending their lies..........
that's all they have. And the Slugs say the Democrats are the Party "bereft of ideas"! :eyes:

Attack, attack, attack, that's all these fools know how to do. Even when they're hopelessly outnumbered, when the facts are totally against them, when they're so far removed from the truth.....they attack. They're hopelessly mired in their own war, a war THEY can never win -- the war for the hearts and minds of Americans.

It almost hurts to watch them flail around, striking out at everyone that disagrees with them., making total idiots of themselves. Almost. ;) Actually, it's kind of fun. I WANT to see them hurt, I WANT to see them fail, I WANT to see them lose every last bit of self respect they ever had. After what they've done to the people of this country and to the people of Iraq, I WANT them to feel the pain. Must be the sadist coming out in me, huh?

is about to be granted. Now watch them roll up their sleeves and REALLY get started. This is just the appetizer before the 12 course meal.

I expect the Washington Propaganda machine to go into full speed ahead, attack mode 24/7. They'll accuse every Dem under the sun of something, anything. They'll dig out local people, the councilman, the librarian.

And watch people get disgusted with it. They'll turn off the TV or turn the channel in record numbers. Americans have had it with this bunch. All they know is, they're hurting big time. They surely don't want to watch a bunch of idiots blaming everybody under the sun. Americans want action, some results. And Bush can't deliver.

As he made off with the 2000 election, and said he'd be a uniter-not-a-divider, sooo, what happened? Another miserable failure?

Mr Bartlett, asked whether the White House attacks on the Democrats would only reinforce partisan divides in the US, said: "We are a politically divided nation."

At least we can look forward to sustained shit-slinging instead of catapulting the propaganda. It should be a refreshing change.

No one will visit him there either. He is now to be avoided.

This just keeps the issue on the front burner. Can you say "WMD"?

Americans are already pissed that we didn't find any WMD and each time they say "we were ALL wrong" it reminds us that "THEY WERE ALL WRONG! So WTF ARE we doing there and why the hell don't we just get out!"

He needs to go back to "we are bringing democracy to the ME" and shut up about why we got there.

I think he doesn't realize that he doesn't have 100% of the media in his back pocket to say nothing of 57% of Americans thinking he lied his way into this war.

67. problem is, people don't get "tired" of a war
the meat grinder effect never goes away.

What shocks me about this whole thing is they say, with a straight face, we didn't expect some of these things to happen in Iraq. We expected it to go more smoothly. I want to scream "war is hell" at them. No war has ever gone as smoothly as expected. Can't we learn that lesson?

Or did they know that lesson and go in anyway. Hoping against hope? I don't get it.

48. he's gonna need another implosion-terra-attack to make this trick work.
Edited on Thu Nov-17-05 08:15 PM by truthisfreedom
just watch. they've got terra up their sleeves.

you know what this reminds me of? holocaust deniers. bushco is destroying itself with this stance, because we were all there when the buildup to the war was happening... we all had brown signs in our yards saying "NO WAR IN IRAQ" and then "BRING THE TROOPS HOME"... we protested in the streets... it was massive. and he wants to pretend we didn't know what was going on the whole time... it's going to be curtains for bushco.

49. We now have the epitome of their 'sustained attack'!
It consists of booga, booga, scary Michael Moore comparisons ala Snotty Scottie:

Breaking (CNN), "Congressman Murtha is a respected veteran and politician who has a record of supporting a strong America,” said White House press secretary Scott McClellan. “So it is baffling that he is endorsing the policy positions of Michael Moore and the extreme liberal wing of the Democratic Party."

(thanks to Bluebear for the quote)

All I can say to that is:

52. Well, if it's anything like the sustained search for Osama bin Laden
the Democrats have little, if anything to worry about. Somebody needs to tell George Bush, though, "Dude, nobody's listening to you anymore. It's over, George. You're history and no amount of "re-writing is going to fix it. Oh, and George, remember the 'uniter, not a divider' thing? Yeah? I thought so. Go cut some brush."

54. Flip Flop!
From *'s acceptance speech:
Reaching these goals will require the broad support of Americans. So today I want to speak to every person who voted for my opponent: To make this nation stronger and better I will need your support, and I will work to earn it. I will do all I can do to deserve your trust.

Guess we know now about the depth of *'s convictions.

58. Bush and Intelligence don't belong in the same sentence
Here in Austin Bush was always viewed as a dim bulb.

I love it. Bush puts Woodward up to this BS and the big fat Limbaugh is on vacation. HAHA.

Woodward is selling his soul for access to these liars. That is alright. I doubt he will be welcome at any Washington area cocktail parties.

Joe Wilson is a hero. I am tired of this right wing hit job. Joe ought to consider running for office.

59. Bring it on, you AWOL coward!
Too late - it IS "conventional wisdom" now.

And they are right that it has finally reached "critical mass", thank god.

There is still one more line to cross tho - the one where eveybody FINALLY CORRECTLY calls him a "LIAR" and stop beating around the bush.

72. Thanks to their own dynamiting of the media
they can no more challenge the public turn against Bush lies and the war than they can disprove flying saucers or give the scoop on evolution. No foundation for credibility. Bush's catapulting the lies as not trying to influence "conventional wisdom" is a lie turned in against itself and its own empty methods, shoddily promulgated with arrogant loudhorns and constant brainwashing- that has NOT succeeded in taking hold and is faltering naturally.

Laughingstock, manipulative liar, popular great leader? Now which do you think will become conventional wisdom? Compared to St. Ronny they already have dropped Bush like a blighted potato.
