Hoeppner will not speak at Republican fundraiser

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. Indiana football coach Terry Hoeppner is no longer going to speak at a 300-dollar-per-person fundraiser for Republicans in the state Senate.

An invitation to the event featured a picture of Hoeppner in I-U apparel and the I-U logo on a football helmet. Some say that was a misuse of the I-U logo, and the Senate Majority Campaign Committee apologized.

Hoeppner says he won't speak at the December luncheon at downtown Indianapolis' Hyatt Hotel.

An I-U spokesman says he thought Hoeppner accepted the speaking invitation thinking it was a legislative luncheon, not a fundraiser. The spokesman says if the coach were to speak to Republicans, he would be available for Democrats, too.

1. I wouldn't be surprised if his story is true,

that he was told by republicans that it was a legislative meeting - not a fundraiser. Mitch isn't making the party "more popular", and bush's negatives have moved beyond his positives in the state... While I don't expect the state senate to turn over, it is possible that the state House will shift back to dems.
