Security services on high terrorist alert for Bush's British tour
http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/this_britain/story.jsp?story=458996

An unprecedented security operation is being put in place to protect George Bush and his entourage from mass protests and potential terrorist attacks when they arrive in London in 19 days' time.

Scotland Yard has cancelled all police leave for the three-day trip, which will be the first state visit paid to Britain by a President of the United States in more than 80 years.

Sir John Stevens, the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, said yesterday that 50,000 to 60,000 anti-war protesters were expected to demonstrate against the American leader. Organisers of a rally in central London on 20 November said they were expecting more than 100,000 people. Opponents of the Iraq war, anti-globalists and anarchist groups are expected to join forces in opposition to the presidential visit.

There are also fears of a terrorist attack;Sir John said yesterday that Britain remained on a high security alert, and the head of MI5 has warned of an attempted strike by al-Qa'ida supporters.

2. more Bush blunders in Australia
Edited on Fri Oct-31-03 07:28 AM by jonoboy
after it was disclosed that a US television network ( CNN ?) smuggled in a camera to the Australian parliament by intimidating the Aussie guards with their American accents ( it could have been a bomb !)..

it has now been revealed that the demands by the Secret Service were so great the Australian Federal Police seconded office staff who dressed in police uniforms to pad out the security..with sugestions that the lead car of the Presidential motorcade was driven by one and that follow up police vehicles with flashing lights were also driven by untrained office workers.

Such is the degree of fear held by countries when this man visits.

Contrast that with President Clinton's visit in '96 when 30,000 people gathered in a park to hear him speak and he walked throught the crowd afterwards, or his 2 hour walk around the historic Rocks area in Sydney with 6 Secret Servicemen while he souvenired shopped, stopping all the way to chat to people.

4. But Clinton was the President
duly elected by the people. Shrub was merely selected by the Supreme Court. He knows he has little or no credibility in the rest of the world, especially after his illegal and immoral starting of war in Iraq.

5. Keep him out of France (not that he'd want to come...)
France recently lowered it's security alert to pre-9/11 levels. The program -- called Vigipirate -- was put in place after a series of terrorist bombings in Paris left 20 people dead and 200 or so wounded in 1995.

8. He'll be made to feel as welcome as an outbreak of syphyllis
No amount of Poodle spin is going to bring down Junior's bloodpressure on this one and he's a massive fool to think he can bluff his way over to Old Blighty.

What the PR guys who have thought this one up just do not get is that the average UK voter thinks Bush is a perverted, gun-slinging oil industry pimp who for some baffling reason that no one has yet sussed, thinks he has a good profile in the UK.

If he's too shit scared to go to Baghdad, then he's a bloody fool to think he can come to London as some sort of victorious celebrity to be feted by the adoring crowds that just can't live without buying some sort of commemorative coffee mug in traditional English bone china with a picture of Chimpy and Pickles outside Buckingham Palace.

It's like asking if Adolf Hitler or his chum Goering can be exhumed and re-buried in Jerusalem's Mount of Olives....

9. Support the 'Bare Your Bum at Bush' movement.
From the website:
Method
George Bush is unlikely to walk around the streets kissing babies because of the large number of people that wish to blow him up. However, a 'Brits love Bush' photo-op of happy crowds greeting the man may be in the offing and it's vitally important that we rob him of such a lucrative propaganda device. By attending such gatherings (by accident or design) and ensuring that you bare your buttocks as he passes by, you either render any photos taken at that moment unusable or make a very clear indication of what Britain thinks of this bigoted warmonger.

. . .

Baring Your Bum
If you hear of a visit to your part of town or happen to see George W Bush, bare your arse in his general direction. Don't be afraid to wiggle it about a bit and maybe even spread your cheeks; this is a political statement you're making and you don't want to do things by halves, now do you?

Threatening To Bare Your Bum
Write to your chosen local, national or foreign newspaper and inform them that you, as a British citizen, fully intend to do your civic duty and bare your arse at George W Bush. In this same letter, you may also wish to call upon other readers to do the same.

. . .

. . .

Many people have signed up for the alert list, ready and willing to bare their bums for the nation. Please feel free to join us.

ALERT LIST - If you would like to receive information the moment we have a clear idea of dates/times/plans, send an email to bums AT bloggerheads DOT com to go on the alert list.

10. I'll post the Stop the War Coalition's plans
As they are the ones who organize these sorts of protests round here.

http://www.stopwar.org.uk/

Wednesday 19th November

Cavalcade with cyclists, taxi drivers, scooter clubs etc following open carriage as alternative state procession procession. Protests at his arrival point and at other times during the day depending on itinerary.

Thursday 20th November

We will organise a national demonstration in London (assembling at 14:00 hours) jointly with CND and MAB. This may take a form that will be slightly different from recent demos - e.g. fewer speakers, music or some other form of entertainment rather than our two or three hour rallies which may not be the best idea for a weekday.

Direct action events including toppling of Bush’s statue in Trafalgar Square at the end of the demonstration and other forms of NVDA will also be incorporated into the programme.

Friday 21st November

Trial of Bush with Bob Marshall Andrews and other lawyers/or People’s Assembly to condemn war crimes.

19. The Pope knows Bush for what he is.
From March, 2003:
Pope to Bush: Go into Iraq and You Go Without God
Capitol Hill Blue

Wednesday 5 March 2003

Pope John Paul II has a strong message for President George W. Bush: God is not on your side if you invade Iraq.
But the President told the pope's envoy the leader of the world's Catholics is wrong.

Pleading for peace, an emissary from Pope John Paul II questioned Bush Wednesday on whether he was doing all he could to avert what the envoy called an "unjust" war with Iraq.

. . .

Laghi came bearing the pope's message: A war would be a "defeat for humanity" and would be neither morally nor legally justified.

The Pope also questioned the President's statements invoking God's name as justification for the invasion.
