Ex-intelligence officials want Rove's security clearance suspended

Knight Ridder Newspapers

WASHINGTON - Sixteen former CIA and military intelligence officials on Tuesday urged President Bush to suspend his top political adviser Karl Rove's security clearance following revelations that he played a role in outing CIA officer Valerie Plame.

"We are asking that you immediately suspend the clearances of all White House personnel who spoke to reporters about (Plame's) affiliation with the CIA. They have mishandled classified information and no longer deserve the level of trust required to have access to this nation's secrets," the former officials, some of whom were covert operatives, wrote Bush.

Rove, who spoke to at least two journalists about the issue, hasn't been charged with wrongdoing in the case, but is believed to still be under investigation.

...

The White House declined to comment on the letter Tuesday evening, saying it involves an ongoing legal matter.

5. Not effin likely.
Did you see how badly Bush flailed when Rove was simply a bit distracted?? There's no WAY Bush will voluntarily suspend his clearance.

7. Prediction: Bush won't even revoke Rove's security clearance when
he has been tried and convicted. He will pardon him, and then continue as if nothing has happened.

14. Well, actually, I did keep track. As of Nov. 15, 2005, WH officials
have used the expression "ongoing investigation" 1322 times in the context of Plamegate.

Another interesting fact: 83.2% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

16. never annoy the civil service, incl. the CIA
I have little respect for the violent black-ops people, but the average CIA agent thinks they are doing what is best for the security of the whole country. They want to left to do their jobs and not be manipulated for domestic political considerations. When the BushCo outed one of their own, they were bound to get pissed off.

It is rather like the truism: never anger the secretary, goodness knows what will happen to the files you need. Never anger the CIA/Intell community, they were here before your administration, and they will be there when you are gone.

Prediction: The Intell community will a major factor in bringing BushCo down. I think they are beginning to see BushCo as a national security threat.

17. "EX intelligence officials" is key here...
probably some of the many that have been forced out by this regime. Someone I know has a buddy in the CIA - first they took his office away, then his desk - effectively removing his workplace out from under him and rendering his position pointless. The slow spiral of obsolescence of his purpose in the *NEW* CIA.....purely coincidence that his friends are libruls......
