'I treated people who had their skin melted'
'I treated people who had their skin melted'
By Dahr Jamail
Published: 15 November 2005

<snip>

"They used these weird bombs that put up smoke like a mushroom cloud," he said. He had seen "pieces of these bombs explode into large fires that continued to burn on the skin even after people dumped water on the burns".

<snip>

Burhan Fasa'a, a freelance cameraman working for the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation (LBC), witnessed the first eight days of the fighting. "I saw cluster bombs everywhere and so many bodies that were burnt, dead with no bullets in them," he said. "So they definitely used fire weapons, especially in Jolan district."

<snip>

Some saw what they thought were attempts by the military to conceal the use of incendiary shells. "The Americans were dropping some of the bodies into the Euphrates near Fallujah," said one ousted resident, Abdul Razaq Ismail.

<snip>

He said he saw bulldozers push soil into piles and load it on to trucks to carry away. In certain areas where the military used "special munitions" he said 200 sq m of soil was being removed from each blast site.

Think for a second, and answer these two questions

1. Who owns the MSM
2. Who makes the munitions in question?

When you find the answers, you'll know why they'll never cover this story :think:

41. Dennis Kyne has been trying to get the word out for YEARS...
...that we have been using depleted uranium since the Gulf War. Dennis has spoken at many major protests, and was arrested last year in NYC, for "inciting a riot and resisting arrest" though the 2nd part was dropped when video footage showed up that proved he had not resisted arrest at all...

He wrote, "I know people (veterans) who came home and their skin literally melted away from their bones. The military told men they had pneumonia, and two days later they'd tell their wives they died of cancer. How does that happen?"

He is real inspiration and deserves credit for all he has been doing to get the word out

Therefore, not true and ignorable.

I think you'd have to march US citizens past the remains of Iraqi civilians, ala post-concentration camp liberation practices, in order for people to truly believe we did this.

Even then, there would be plenty of people who would say a.) it's been done to them by their own people or b.) was necessary to expose insurgent cells.

As my favorite bumpersticker says, "I fear my country AND I fear my government."

MARINE CORPS EYES PORTABLE THERMOBARIC WARHEAD FOR URBAN OPS

By Malina Brown

Naval researchers are developing a portable version of the thermobaric bombs employed to clear caves and bunkers in Afghanistan for the Marine Corps to use in urban combat.

Thermobaric weapons are fuel-rich explosives that suck air from its target, creating a lethal combination of heat and pressure that burns longer than conventional explosives. The weapons are effective on hardened, underground facilities, which are among the most difficult targets to eliminate.

Scientists and engineers at Indian Head, MD-based Naval Surface Warfare Center are fabricating a thermobaric warhead that can operate with the shoulder-mounted multipurpose assault weapon. According to a statement from Naval Sea Systems Command, the Marines were so impressed with the success of thermobaric weapons used in Operation Enduring Freedom that they approached the Indian Head researchers and requested a shoulder-mounted version of their own.

The Marines expect to receive the shoulder-mounted thermobaric arms in the near term, according to Maj. Thomas Bowers, the infantry requirements officer in the materials division at the Marine Corps Combat Development Command. In “definitely less than a year” the warheads should be in the hands of some Marines, though it is not slated to go out to every unit, Bowers told Inside the Navy last week.

It's basically small-scale daisey cutter fired from an anti-tank tube.
House sweep and clears will be reduced to sweep and clear the rubble.

14. Hellfire II went thermobaric 8/23/05
Edited on Tue Nov-15-05 01:28 PM by Indy Lurker
http://www.missilesandfirecontrol.com/our_news/pressreleases/05pressrelease/082305-HELLFIRE.htm

The AGM-114N (MAC) thermobaric round, used against enclosed structures. "thermobaric" warheads are also referred to as fuel air explosives, and are used in the famous "Daisy Cutter" bombs. The thermobaric warhead exchanges some "hard target" capabilities for the ability to launch devastating anti-personnel strikes that can wipe out out bunkers, enemies in buildings, et. al. with incredibly intense heat and overpressure that fills these spaces and kills those inside.

Oh, you can also mount one on a UAV.

33. The US military is ALREADY using these weapons
Read Indy Lurker's article-- Post 14 Lockheed Martin is SO proud.

<snip>

Early versions of the MAC-configured HELLFIRE have already been combat-proven in Operation Iraqi Freedom and have been cited by the Administration as meeting an urgent requirement to suppress terrorists in urban areas,” said Jim Gribschaw, program director for Air-to-Ground Missiles Systems at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. “This missile is capable of reaching around corners to strike enemy forces hiding in cases, bunkers and hardened multi-room complexes. Coupled with HELLFIRE's highly accurate semi-active laser seeker, the MAC warhead gives our forces the ability to take out threat targets in urban environments with high lethality and minimal collateral damage.”

<snip>

The HELLFIRE II family of missiles includes four variations: the high-explosive anti-tank missile (AGM-114K), which defeats all known and projected armored threats; the blast fragmentation missile (AGM-114M), which defeats “soft” targets such as buildings, bunkers, light-armored vehicles and caves; the millimeter-wave (MMW) radar Longbow HELLFIRE (AGM-114L), which provides fire-and-forget and adverse weather capability; and the “thermobaric” HELLFIRE (AGM-114N). All HELLFIRE II variants have been used successfully in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), with more than 1,000 missiles fired to date.

18. Good question. Of course, the reason we aren't keeping track
of Iraqi deaths is because the administration doesn't want us to know when we kill more Iraqis than Saddam did.

We are going to have another generation of soldiers who are forever scarred by the actions that they performed in carrying out Mr. Bush's illegal war.

an interview with a Pentagon spokesman who explained to the BBC interviewer (on the pm programme) that troops used white phosphorus to drive enemy combatants out of places where they were hiding. He admitted they were used directly on people, in other words, not to light the surroundings or to create a smoke screen. But, he said, this is legal because white phosphorus is classified as an incendiary not as a chemical weapon.

Joker: Our side, sir.
Colonel: Don't you love your country?
Joker: Yes, sir.
Colonel: Well how about getting with the program? Why don't you jump on the team and c'mon in for the big win?
Joker: Yes, sir.
Colonel: Son, all I've ever asked of my Marines is for them to obey my orders as they would the word of God. We are here to help the Vietnamese because inside every gook, there is an American trying to get out. It's a hardball world, son. We've got to try to keep our heads until this peace craze blows over.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051116/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/iraq_white_phosphorous

WASHINGTON - Pentagon officials acknowledged Tuesday that U.S. troops used white phosphorous as a weapon against insurgent strongholds during the battle of Fallujah last November. But they denied an Italian television news report that the spontaneously flammable material was used against civilians.

Lt. Col. Barry Venable, a Pentagon spokesman, said that while white phosphorous is most frequently used to mark targets or obscure a position, it was used at times in Fallujah as an incendiary weapon against enemy combatants.

"It was not used against civilians," Venable said.

54. Well, horrible as it is, why can't you?
This is nothing new.

Vietnam saw much, much worse, qualitatively and quantitatively.

Have a gander at the Toledo Blade's Pulitzer-winning series on Tiger Force; it's all online. Those guys could have taught even the Abu Ghraib All-Stars a trick or two...

56. "comfortably numb"
There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship, smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying.
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown, the dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb. - Pink Floyd

59. I'm really hoping
that this is not what it looks like. If the American military was using chemical weapons indiscriminately in the middle of a city full of civilians, this is going to be a My Lai-sized PR disaster - the rest of the world, especially the Arab communities, upon learning of the actions taken by American soldiers, will turn even further against us. This could directly result in more insurgents and terrorists joining the nationalist and jihadist uprisings in Iraq.
