US asks for more European help in Iraq
US asks for more European help in Iraq

15.11.05 4.00pm

BERLIN - Germany and other European countries that opposed the war in Iraq should do more to help there and recognise the Iraqi leadership as a legitimate and democratic government, a senior US official said.

US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Daniel Fried said Washington did not expect Germany to send troops to Iraq, but he urged Europe to provide more support for what he described as "one of the most democratically constituted regimes" in the Middle East.

"It should not be treated as a pariah and its leaders should not be treated as if they are second class citizens. Now I am not accusing Germany of doing that, though there is a kind of asterisk often put near Iraq and the government and that needs to be removed," Fried told reporters at a US embassy briefing.

4. Why does the World's Only SuperPower need Old Europe?
Huh?

Aren't we sending mixed messages to our enemies that we aren't the big bully nation that can kick their butts all by ourselves?

Who is this ninny State Department guy anyway? Doesn't he know we already won the war and we are just 'mopping up'.

/sarcasm

5. Truly amazing. The U.S. simply has no shame.
There is no outrage too low for them to stoop to. After ALL that has happened with the war in Iraq, after all the insults, the "Freedom Fries", and open fighting with Chirac and Schröeder. And now this.

And notice here the crude attempts at manipulation: "it should be treated as a pariah". This is a Neanderthal attempt to bully the European countries. If the Europeans refuse, then they are seen as elitist, "mean" to this little fledgling country.

Now I am truly convinced we have Cro-Magnons in the State Department.

8. Uh-hem. “Old Europe” told the US not to break it.
And now the arrogant bastards of the * administration, presuming some moral superiority, want their opponents to help them pick up the pieces of this ongoing travesty. WTF? I think not.

The lunatics are clearly in charge of this asylum.

9. This is indeed hilarious! LOL!
All the allies are quitting this stupid war in Iraq, the U.S. is having a hard time recruiting anyone from this country. And most mercenaries say, "forget It"...

10. Bush knows he can't get troops from France or Germany
I think that just leaves money. He is hoping to take advantage of the new coalition government in Germany to shake down some dough, and to get a little "we're sorry for being right" from them.

13. As an American, I request Europe not to help Bush in Iraq
It's in the world's best interest that Bush go down the tubes. Europe's helping hand for Bush would prevent Bush's demise. Hey Europe, please don't help us. Thanks.

16. I think Mr. Fried (he looks, god forbid, French, btw) must have missed
the tough-guy memo that said 'We don't need any help from Old Europe, and if they won't join us, we'll go it alone'!!

Now Bush has so embarrassed the US in front of the world by refusing to listen to anyone, including his own generals who said that if he was determined to go to war, at least send enough troops to do the job right. But he's now going to 'old Europe' with his hat in his hand, begging them to fix what he broke, and has no idea how to get out of??

Hey, Freepers!! What do you think of your tough-guy 'we don't need no help from anyone' president now? How does it feel to see him begging the French for help? Hate to say it, but we told you so!!

Europe.

FU, BushCo, they hate you over there as much as we do here. Fix the mess yourselves, why don't you send Jenna and Barbara Jr. to Iraq?
