US condemns Uzbek terror verdicts

The 15 defendants all pleaded guilty on the first day of the trial
Washington has described as flawed and unfair the trial of 15 men in Uzbekistan convicted of leading an Islamist uprising in Andijan.
An Uzbek court found the 15 men guilty of trying to oust the government and set up an Islamic state, and jailed them for between 14 and 20 years each.

Security forces suppressed the unrest with a crackdown in which hundreds of people are feared to have been killed.

"We believe that these convictions are based on evidence that isn't credible and a trial that isn't fair," US state department spokesman Adam Ereli said on Monday.

Why didn't someone in the Bush administration express any moral repugnance at the thought of BOILING political prisoners as only one of many TORTURE treatments Islam Karimov employed before he THREW the U.S. OUT of his country recently?

7. Well it starts by them convincing people (and themselves)
their 'enemies' are NOT human. That they are LESS than human. That makes it OK, and they can do it without a thought because they are just "animals" or "savages." No guilt either.

This is what people have done for thousands of years.

5. At least they had a trial, even if it was phony.

Under Bush, the U.S. doesn't even bother with trials anymore. It is amazing that the Bushites can still lecture others. Not that I am condoning the situation, just pointing out the hypocracy.

6. In other news, the jury is still out in the matter of Pot v. Kettle...
"We believe that these convictions are based on evidence that isn't credible and a trial that isn't fair."

Their solution, of course, is to just not even bother with the trial part. Hence, there is no question of an illegitemate trial!! Clever ones, they are! :sarcasm:
