Forrester says Bush's troubles tilted the vote (NJ Gov. Race)
It's all George W. Bush's fault.

Doug Forrester, in his first postelection interview, laid the blame for his loss in the governor's race last week directly at the feet of President Bush. He said the public's growing disaffection with Bush, especially after Hurricane Katrina, made it impossible for his campaign to overcome the built-in advantage Democrats have in a blue state like New Jersey.

"If Bush's numbers were where they were a year ago, or even six months ago, I think we would have won on Tuesday," Forrester said. "Katrina was the tipping point."

12. That's not entirely accurate.
Many Republicans donated to and supported Kerry in '04. I usually refer to them as "old style" or "real" Republicans. They are still around and even more dismayed by George, the neocons, the corporatists, and the religious wingnuts, and at what has happened to their party. And others of them are just beginning to realize that their party has been highjacked by the bad people.

John Eisenhower actually resigned from the party and registered as Independent after the 2000 election.

These people are our allies.

14. Kris has a song for Doug Forrester: "Blame it on the Stones"
Mister Marvin Middle Class is really in a stew
Wond'rin' what the younger generation's coming to
And the taste of his martini doesn't please his bitter tongue
Blame it on the Rolling Stones.
Blame it on the Stones; blame it on the Stones
You'll feel so much better, knowing you don't stand alone
Join the accusation; save the bleeding nation
Get it off your shoulders; blame it on the Stones

Mother tells the ladies at the bridge club every day
Of the rising price of tranquilizers she must pay
And she wonders why the children never seem to stay at home
Blame it on the Rolling Stones.

Blame it on the Stones; Blame it on the Stones
You'll feel so much better, knowing you don't stand alone
Join the accusation; save the bleeding nation
Get it off your shoulders; blame it on the Stones

Father's at the office, nightly working all the time
Trying to make the secretary change her little mind
And it bothers him to read about so many broken homes
Blame it on those Rolling Stones.

Blame it on the Stones; Blame it on the Stones
You'll feel so much better knowing you don't stand alone
Join the accusation; save the bleeding nation
Get it off your shoulders; blame it on the Stones

Blame it on the stones, blame it on the stones.

poll numbers down. The Katrina post Bush disaster showed how incompetent this fu*k of a leader really is. One quote shuts down the Freepers at work, "Brownie, your doing a heck of a job." and the Brownie emails only reinforce his and this tyrant's incompetence.

I wish Corzine used that quote in a TV ad saying something like - Doe's NJ really want a Governer that supports a leader like this?

He would have won by 20pts.

17. Bull! He'd have lost anyway.
Certainly Bush's numbers didn't help him any, but it's the mess Bush has created that impacted NJ and influenced the vote, not any poll numbers.

What an ultra-maroon.

18. Had to post this: Will Forrester's attack hurt his own Business.
Forrester said...
He'll return to his business, BeneCard Services Inc., a prescription drug manager for health care providers, and try to figure out if the negative campaign attacks on his business will affect the bottom line.

He said, "I'm just trusting that people will recognize that that was just politics playing itself out in New Jersey."

24. There is some truth to this. Dems were MOTIVATED
and showed up at the polls. The grassroots dems really worked hard at getting the Dem vote out. It was impressive and there is no doubt in my mind, as it did also apply to me and my grassroots pals, that our motivation was helped by that criminal regime in the whitehouse.

26. It did play a role in giving Corzine his 11 point victory.
Edited on Sun Nov-13-05 08:52 PM by AX10
Democrats were motivated and a massive grassroots campaign was afoot to get Dems out to vote. Corzine's 54/43 win without this motivation would have been a single digit win (52/45).

Bush's unpopularity has allowed the Demorats to become much more motivated. November 8th, 2004, the Dems were in disbelief over Bush's "win" (if that's what you call it). One year later, November 8th, 2005 was a great day for the Democrats.

29. As a New Jerseyean, I agree with everything you say here
I live in a very Republican county and the Democrats were more active than I have ever seen them. There were more also more volonteers - In September, I received emails with links for volunteering from both Kerry's list and (I think the DNC). Corzine had an automated system that called people - asking if they could volunteer, donate, or if you were voting for him.

The national party did a great job supporting Corzine - starting with Kerry going to 5 rallies in September, B.Clinton coming at least 3 times, and in the last weekend, Obama was in 4 places and Dean in (I think) 6 places. I have never had so many opputunities to see big name Democrats.

Forrester also shouldn't discount the possibility that NJ just doesn't like him.

28. so what was his excuse for losing last time ?
while Bush certain did not help. the fact is NJ is a democratic state and people like Forrestor have no chance. the only time he had a chance was when he was up against the Torch and even in that case people were voting against the Torch based on his corrupt dealings rather than any issues. as soon as we replaced him with Lautenberg it was an easy Dem win.

32. McGreevy won by at least 15 points in 2001
Let's not forget about Jim McGreevy winning by 15 points (I think it was 20) in 2001 when Bush had an 85% approval rating! How does Dougie explain that one? Doug lost his second state wide election, if he runs for senate again, it would be his third. I don't think he could win as Dog Catcher in West Windsor!

34. Candidate Says Bush Troubles Became His (NJ Governor race)
NEWARK, N.J. - The Republican who lost New Jersey's bitter gubernatorial race said he would have won had President Bush's popularity not been sagging.

Doug Forrester, who lost to Democrat Jon Corzine by about 9 percentage points last week, told The Sunday Star-Ledger of Newark that dissatisfaction with Bush made it impossible for him to overcome the Democrats' advantages.

"If Bush's numbers were where they were a year ago, or even six months ago, I think we would have won on Tuesday," Forrester said.

WooHoo!!
