Bush to press Hu on currency
Bush to press Hu on currency

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A push for China to embrace more currency flexibility and crack down on trade in fake U.S. goods will dominate President George W. Bush's economic message as he sets off this week on a four-nation trip to Asia.

Bush's tour, which includes a visit to Beijing, comes after a report showed the U.S. trade deficit with the rest of the world surged to a record monthly high of $66.1 billion in September amid a flood of imports from China.

Such figures add to political pressure on Bush to take a tough line on trade issues with Chinese President Hu Jintao.

One breakthrough both leaders will be able to tout is a three-year deal reached last week to rein in billions of dollars of China's clothing and textile shipments to the United States.

1. Cut clothing imports? What about WALMART?

How will walmart continue to profit without cheap imports to sell? No wonder Boy Bush is losing support among repugs

3. before this past year, there were (HUGE) quotas, this year they dropped
them, and it was a floodgate opening. not that the old quotas didn't already decimate the garment industry in this country. but the few remaining mills down south are hurting even more now.
they lobbied hard to get the quotas back. bush is trying to hold on to the south, that's all he gives a shit about. that voting block.

5. Heeheee! I was thinking
that there must be a great comedic skit waiting to be written from this event, but on second thought decided it would more likely be a tragedy.
