New DeLay judge sets date for his first hearing
Request to move trial is likely to be addressed Nov. 22

AUSTIN - The new judge in the criminal trial of U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay on Monday set his first hearing in the case for Nov. 22, most likely taking up motions to move the trial from Travis to Fort Bend County.
(snip)

Prosecutors on Monday filed an affidavit from Austin lawyer Betty Blackwell challenging 40 affidavits from Austin residents who said DeLay could not get a fair trial there.

Blackwell said the people who signed the DeLay affidavits were "not credible as they are prejudiced in favor" of DeLay.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Lone Star Project put out a statement challenging DeLay's contention that Travis County is Democratic. The group said election returns for the past two presidential elections, past two U.S. Senate races and the 2002 governor's race show Travis County was more Democratic than Republican by a margin of two-tenths of one percent.
(snip)

The decision to appoint Priest, a Democrat, to the case was made by Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Wallace Jefferson. Jefferson had been endorsed by TRMPAC in 2002 when Colyandro was executive director. Jefferson also participated in TRMPAC fundraisers.

1. DeLay CANNOT get a fair trial in Fort Bend County. I am in
Harris County right next door and I know he's got plenty of friends in Fort Bend.

2. I bet they keep the trial in Travis Cty.
There's another post from a different paper that says these kind of trials are always held in Travis.

I think it's staying there!

4. So in his estimation Delay can only get a fair trial if...what?
the trial takes place in his Sugarland country club with a jury pool selected from the rosters of the Sugarland Junior League and the local chapter of the KKK?

11. DeLay's idea of a fair trial
DeLay's idea of a fair trial consists of a jury stacked with TRMPAC donors, operatives, and/or underlings.

10. DeLay's been on a campaign blitz to win jurors since he was charged
Where in TX would he find a jury that didn't know some facts of the case? That's his own damn fault.

13. Mugabe and Bush are cut from the same cloth
absolutely no regard for the welfare of their people. They care only about themselves.

And why the hell do we still impose sanctions? What have sanctions ever done except punish the innocent starving people while letting the brutal dictators exploit it to their own advantage? "Oh you know those evil americans are making you starve, listen to me instead".
