Fox News hit with sexual harassment lawsuit
Fox News hit with sexual harassment lawsuit
EEOC suit claims company retaliated against former worker for complaining
New York /AP Updated: 8:47 p.m. ET Nov. 7, 2005/ The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has filed a sexual harassment lawsuit in federal court against News Corp.’s Fox News Network LLC.

A sexual harassment lawsuit by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission against Fox News Network LLC contends that Fox retaliated against Kim Weiler, a former employee, for complaining about discrimination and that, as a result of the discrimination, Weiler and others at Fox were “constructively discharged” by the network. The suit does not state how many people were discharged.

The complaint contends that Joe Chillemi, a Fox vice president who supervised its advertising and promotions departments, sexually harassed and subjected Weiler and other women to a hostile work environment, routinely using obscenities and vulgarities to describe women or their body parts.

14. EEOC is being gutted by Bush corp.
This is fairly amazing for EEOC is one of the many depts. under attack
by Bush corp. Since they can't change the law they undermine the agencies responsible for enforcing the law...

so hats off to the EEOC for making a case...
esp. against the Bush propaganda machine mouth piece FOX...that was probably harder still.

15. Everything the wacko right-wing touches is corrupted.
Fox news diddles its female employees. Limpballs can't stay off the drugs. Libby writes porn with pedophilia and bestiality. Our vice President uses the country as cash cow. The Senate and House leaders are into money laundering and insider trading. The brain behind the administration uses national security in a political game. They all lied so Americans would support an illegal war... It is hard to believe that loving and good people actually support these thieves, liars and con men. Will it ever end?

23. Can Americans file a lawsuit
since Faux has created "a hostile work environment" all over the freaking country? They have also subjected the American people to "obscenities and vulgarities".

There was a great story in the Sunday Virginian Pilot about letters home from Iraq. I wish I could find it, because there was a Marine that wrote home and said that he had the opportunity to watch CNN/MSNBC/CBS and FOX one right after the other. He said; "Looking at it that way, I realized Fox was such a joke. I've never seen anything so biased in my life".

My new motto in response to this Marine: "Support the Troops...Give them leadership in Washington they can be proud of."

27. just an FYI..."constructive discharge" is a legal term that means....
...that working conditions were so hostile and intolerable that someone feels they have no choice but to quit their job. Whoever wrote this story seems unaware of the meaning of that term, judging by the sentence "The suit does not state how many people were discharged."

Equal rights watchdog sues Fox News for harassing women

Julian Borger in Washington

The Guardian

Rupert Murdoch's Fox News Channel is being sued by the US equal employment opportunity commission for harassing and discriminating against its female staff, it was reported yesterday. The EEOC commission, a federal agency, accused Fox of creating a "hostile work environment" for women because of their sex, after investigating discrimination claims by a former employee, Kim Weiler.

Its report singles out Joe Chillemi, vice president in charge of promotions and advertising at Fox, who it alleged "routinely used obscenities and vulgarities when describing women or their body parts". The lawsuit, filed in a federal court, alleged that Mr Chillemi "routinely cursed at and otherwise denigrated women employees", telling them to "be a man".

"At a department discussion about a segment on sexism in the workplace, Chillemi said that in choosing who to hire 'if it came down between a man or a woman, of course I'd pick the man. The woman would most likely get pregnant and leave'," the lawsuit alleged.
The commission also claimed Fox News routinely relegated female employees to freelance work, with less job security and fewer benefits. Ms Weiler was "constructively discharged", according to the commission report. That meant that "conditions became so intolerable, she was unable to work there", Judy Keenan, an EEOC lawyer, said.

Steven Mintz, a lawyer who represented Fox News during the investigation, told the New York Times: "We investigated the allegations and charges that were made and found them to be baseless ... Fox News questions the motivations behind the charges."

39. Flanders Field, Belgium
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Fields.

-- John McCrae
