CBC Newsworld - 9pm - Conspiracy Theories
Not sure who in the US can get CBC Newsworld but this should be of interest.

Conspiracy Theories

On September 11, 2001, pilotless airplanes were guided into the World Trade Center by homing beacons. It wasn't a plane that hit the Pentagon, but a missile. U.S. Air Force planes weren't scrambled to intercept the hijacked planes that morning because the White House was behind the events of that tragic day. Incredible? Definitely. Outlandish? Absolutely. But, there are lots of people who believe that at least some parts of these stories are true.

In a special season premiere investigation the fifth estate's Bob McKeown finds that even the most outlandish conspiracy theory may have its basis in a legitimate question. In the course of separating fact from fiction, Bob delves into the labyrinthine and surprising ties between the Bushes and the Bin Ladens. What he finds out may startle you as much as any conspiracy theory.

4. Greed
is the root of our culture.

It's the west's defining quality. Not intelligence, culture, compassion, not hard work. Pure greed.
That's why we're RICH

6. OMG! They're saying it!

I'm just 15 minutes into watching the tape of this, and I'm almost in tears. I'm hoping a full transcript will show up somewhere soon -- but, in the meantime, here's a short excerpt of how they came back from their first commercial break:

"Think of it as a conspiracy theory true-or-false test.

A: When George W. Bush started his first oil company, who helped fund it? Osama bin Laden's brother and brother-in-law, true or false?

B: After a terrorist bomb at a barracks in Saudi Arabia killed 19 Americans, who got the multimillion-dollar contract to rebuild? The bin Ladens, true or false?

C: On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, who was in a meeting at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Washington? George Bush Sr. and Osama bin Laden's brother, true or false?

Actually, the answer could be D, all of the above. Because, believe it or not, as far-fetched as they sound, each and every one of those things -- the bin Laden link to the Bush oil company, the bin Laden contract after the terrorist bomb, and the bin Laden-Bush meeting on 9/11 -- is true."

Wow, wow, wow.

10. Too bad that there is a limited reach
of CBC. Received it when I lived in the Detroit area, but no where else that I have lived (No. Virginaia; Indiana; Bay Area/California). Very high quality.

Please do post a transcript or a link to the show if you can find one, for the many of us who have no access. Thanks.

21. Khalid Sheik Mohammed story is BS
This is a cover up of the original Saeed Sheik story who was the alleged bagman for Mohammed Atta. The problem was that the Indian government reported Omar Saeed Sheik to be the go between for the Pakistani ISI which everyone knows works hand in glove with the CIA. How embarassing! Then he became the killer of Daniel Pearl. How was that arranged? Pearl's leads came from people in the US. What bad advice he got! Also Khalid was reported killed in a raid on the apartment of Binalshibh in Pakistan several months before he was "captured."

I knew the Khalid story was fishy when I saw the pictures in the press alleged to be the "mastermind." They are a completely different person. You notice this story doesn't run the imposters picture at the time of capture but the file pictures. I have little doubt that Khalid was involved in the 911 conspiracy in some way. Perhaps as a Lee Harvey. The only problem is he wasn't captured, he was killed and his wife confirmed it according to the earlier reports. Perhaps, the first story about his death was false. The one thing I will say is that the description of his capture is convincing, but the fat slob in the t shirt with long greasy hair isn't Khalid. I don't care how bad someone looks when rousted out of bed, it isn't him. You can tell (from the pictures) Khalid fancies himself as a gentlemen of sorts and has bearing. Hence the mastermind label. This guy that was captured appeared to be a slob.

In any case, it was nice to see that someone is keeping track of the disinformation or rabbit trails being passed off as fact by the media, here and abroad. Check out this Canadian source:

There's Something About Omar:
Truth, Lies, and The Legend of 9/11
by Chaim Kupferberg

<Abu Hamza's role as an Islamic fundamentalist recruiter (along with that of his counterpart in Hamburg, Mohammed Haydar Zammar - the recruiter of Atta and Binalshibh) must be judged in the light of present demographic realities. And the reality is this: with a population in excess of one billion adherents, and a geographic span that stretches from the West African Straits of Gibraltar to the far east of Asia, the Muslim World apparently was not up to the task of furnishing the most hardcore, sophisticated operative cells of al-Qaida... Rather, the peculiarly sophisticated strain of Muslim terror that has been branded as al-Qaida was largely incubated among an insular network in the U.K. and the E.U., where a conveniently incriminating trail could be tracked and showcased as definitive proof of the authorship for 9/11.>

<Only weeks before his July 15, 2002 article on Binalshibh, Finn had played his part in structuring the news regarding the man who had allegedly recruited Binalshibh and other members of the "Hamburg cell" into the ranks of Islamic fundamentalism - Mohammed Haydar Zammar. On June 12, 2002 - that is, just a week after Khalid Shaikh Mohammed was introduced as the new 9/11 mastermind - Finn introduced Zammar as the "charismatic advocate" who had cast his spell over Atta, Binalshibh, and their Hamburg-based colleagues - in much the same way that Abu Hamza had worked his magic on his British charges. >

<And, like Abu Hamza, Zammar was likewise allowed to carry on freely in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 while the German and British authorities were rounding up suspects by the dozens. According to Der Speigel, German intelligence agents had approached Zammar in 1996, offering to recruit him as an informer. Zammar reportedly declined the offer, and then - as reported by Finn - "around 1997, Atta and others in the Hamburg-based group, who already had anti-Western views, fell under Zammar's influence." >

<The $64,000 question, however, is whether Zammar - and British recruiter Abu Hamza - did in fact fall under the influence of any intelligence service. ..>

Sorry, it's 85 pages long. File it away for future reference.

11. I was disappointed
Edited on Wed Oct-29-03 10:40 PM by Minstrel Boy
It wasn't at all about alternatives to the official story. The first five minutes touched briefly on Vreeland (no substance provided and no verdict offered on Vreeland's story) and the missile-hit-the-Pentagon theory (which was dismissed). And that was it. There was no examination of the failure of SOP; the hijackers being trained at US military instalations; the quashing of pre-9/11 investigations; bin Laden meeting a CIA station chief in July 2001; the multiple, high-level warnings of foreign intelligence which pointed towards an early September attack on US landmarks, using planes as weapon; the Pentagon cancelling flights; etc, ad nauseum. None of it.

This was really about the Bush-bin Laden history, and how Washington has been compromised by pandering to the Saudi royals. No revelations for anyone who's been following it closely, but probably eye-opening for the general public. But still, some glaring omissions. The victims' family suit against the Saudis was mentioned, but not the fact that the Saudis are being represented by Baker-Botts.

16. I appreciate your take, but I was very pleased.
CBC had one hour minus ads to cover a huge topic. I too was upset as intricate issues were given a drive-by.

But, then while reading your post, I realized that the show's purpose was well described with your own words:

"No revelations for anyone who's been following it closely, but probably eye-opening for the general public."

If the general public was the target, the CBC hit the bullseye.

17. My disappointment comes from having
Edited on Wed Oct-29-03 10:51 PM by Minstrel Boy
anticipated something else. I think the program was misrepresented as an examination of the case for conspiracy. It should have been promoted as a study of the Bush-bin Laden nexus. In that respect, it was a fair primer, and probably a taste of what Moore's going to give us next year with Fahrenheit 911.

15. hate to do this...
but the 5th estate is a ratfink operation (I recall program on animal liberation movement that caused me to send the following letter)....pointing fingers at 19 hijackers/saudi/osama and saying bushwack inc maybe not very nice....boo hoo.
they dismiss the 'conspiracy' theories (mihop) and are coy about lihop, but McKewn is a lightweight bullshit artist.
The cbc is run by same sort as the rest of the goddamed mass media (they never mention the short selling of airline stock, the 'flipping' of the WTC three times in month prior to 911, the Offputt(?) AFB meeting which was attended by officers of dozens of WTC tenant co's etc)
----------
Jan 27/99
Parkdale

Dear World:
For thirty minutes last evening your program exposed a group of animal rights activists by means of a spy who infiltrated them using hidden cameras! When the spy was caught, apparently nothing happened to him, as he was ok when the program was aired. That says more to me then the rest of your program, which implies that these animal rights activists are major league subversives! I think you are a bit off-base. Every movement has a ‘loony lefty’ element; environment, pro- or anti-choice, even the flat earth society! In a perfect world, extremists would be nice and no-one would get hurt, but as news folks, you know that it’s not a perfect world better than I. It seems to me that a bunch of street level fanatics obsessed with animals rights are way down the list of things to be concerned about, though routine police oversight are necessary and obvious. There is SO MUCH injustice and corruption in this world, even in the corner 5th Estate operates, that fishing for issues to expose simply is not necessary. The whole tone of gravity your report evinces is preposterous when one considers some of the things going on! This brings up the larger issue of the news media’s purpose, which is not, and never has been, to make money, despite the media’s ownership’s insistance that it is. If 5th Estate wants to contribute to society’s continued survival, do not waste time/energy on the antics of bothersome annoyances, as they are a permanent feature of free peoples. There are evil things happening which are being engineered with cold blooded disregard for the consequences by persons whose names are well known. Why have you never looked at Conrad Black and the concentration of media ownership; are you scared? How about the thousands of wealthy Canadians who live outside Canada whilst collecting government cheques? Or the children who exist in garbage dumps in Lima, Mex City, Rio and so on, and the fact their poor countries daily send millions of desperately needed dollars to our big fat rich! It’s not politically correct eh! The media hammers away at Clinton despite public disinterest in his mickey mouse wrongdoing; yet you dare say "We’ve already covered that!" when real issues that should be exposed again and again and again until something results, are ignored! The airwaves are public property, and will always be public property despite criminal efforts to claim them as private interest; and this goes spades for the CBC. To be honest with you, I doubt anything can be done about the rampant injustice poisoning the human spirit, for while YOU were busy infiltrating the flat earth society, THEY were busy infiltrating YOU! Thank you kindly for your attention.

I applaud the CBC for doing this. Many of us on the net may be well aware of the connections but we are very much a minority so it is great for CBC to get it out there in the mainstream. Hopefully it will cause greater questioning about those ties and 9/11.
