Brazil waits for Lula's war on poverty
Brasilia, Brazil - Brazil's President, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, has had a poor start to his war on hunger and a year after his election some Brazilians have lost faith in his promises for radical social change.

"It was a lot of marketing," said teacher Elena Maria de Faria as she recycled tin cans to raise cash for Lula's "Zero Hunger" anti-poverty scheme. "Unfortunately, I voted for him; he promised one thing, and he's done another."

But like most poor Brazilians, housemaid Marluce Oliveira dos Santos could still say no wrong of her working-class hero.
