Iraqi minister says US and UK spies arrested in Iraq; Iran meddlingIraq-UK, Politics, 11/2/2005
Iraqi Interior Minister Bayan Baqir Jabr on Tuesday termed the allegations that Iran is meddling in Iraqi affairs as "ridiculous."
IRNA reported: "As I have repeatedly told, Iran has nothing to do with Iraq's developments, those in the southern region in particular, he told the Iraqi TV channel Al-Fayha.
He noted that some countries have activated their intelligence services in Iraq, saying, "Let me tell a piece of truth to the public in Iraq. We have arrested a number of US and UK intelligence elements."
He noted that while Iran has repeatedly been accused of involvement in Iraq, some intelligence elements from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Britain and the US have been arrested in Iraq but Baghdad would not disclose details.
The allegations point to the fact that some countries are not willing to see the process of evolving a new sovereign government in Iraq succeed, he concluded.
