Mosque suicide bombing kills 22 in Iraq

The suicide bombing occurred in Musayyib, a predominantly Shiite town about 40 miles south of Baghdad. Sunni insurgents were suspected of being behind the attack.

The town suffered an even deadlier attack July 16, when a suicide bomber struck a gas station near the same mosque, blowing up a fuel tanker and killing nearly 100 people.

3. I understand the desire to denigrate suicide bombers

But I don't see the point in calling someone who dies for a cause, no matter how misguided they may be, a coward. I suppose the idea is to attempt to deny and contradict the obvious truth, that they are showing the ultimate physical bravery, though in a misguided manner, and often for a misguided cause.

I don't think the rhetoric works though. It would make more sense to call them criminals, since innocents are often targeted.

Though I would use a different word, what the poster said is correct: the suicide bombers are murderers. Just because the Iraq War is wrong does not make suicide bombers and insurgants somehow "right".

Unless a poster badmouths Democrats or exalts Bush, or some such behavior, it's pretty unfair to be banned for pointing out an obvious fact. (Come to think of it, we've got plenty of far-left people on this site who trash Democrats, and they never seem to get banned like they should.)

I see what you mean. Something that implied the Iraq War casualties are minor in comparison with other wars and battles. A poor comparison to make because, unlike in past American wars, this particular war has had very few actual battles. Our troops are getting assassinated by roadside bombs and snipers at an alarming rate - before they even get a chance to raise their rifle to shoot. 2000+ casualties in very few battles? That is a lot of casualties.
