RAMADI, Iraq (Reuters) - A U.S. helicopter crashed in the area of Ramadi west of Baghdad on Wednesday killing two Marines, the U.S. military said.

A military statement said the AH-1W "Super Cobra" helicopter crashed at around 8.15 am (0515 GMT) and both of the two man crew were killed.

"The cause of the crash is under investigation," the statement said.

But witnesses said the helicopter had come under fire from the ground before it crashed but there was no independent confirmation of that.

"The incident occurred while the two-man crew was flying in support of security and stabilization operations," the U.S. statement said.

Eyewitnesses in Ramadi said the helicopter came down in the Albo Ubaid district of the city and U.S. forces quickly cordoned off the area while more helicopters flew overhead.

edited: for the reuters report...

4. I could be projecting my own emotions, but...
I saw Carol Costello report this on CNN this morning, right after it broke, and I swear she looked upset when she announced that 2 Marine pilots had been killed.

Sooner or later, it has to get to these reporters, to report every single day on more American deaths, especially as it's starting to dawn on more people that this whole war was based on lies.

8. I am not sure
there are either 2030 Dead or 2034 Dead at this point. I have checked icasualites and have not seen this attack reported yet. Either way this has to stop. :(

9. It's 2030
icasualties has the 4 from Monday but not these two on their numbers yet.

They're currently at 2028, but these two deaths have been confirmed by DoD on their sidebar.

Remember that we'll also hear about Nov 1 deaths (if any) today, so the number could go up.

6. Listen to this Orwellianism
"But witnesses said the helicopter had come under fire from the ground before it crashed but there was no independent confirmation of that."

So, witnesses at the scene are not to be trusted, until an "independent" confirmation comes from the Pentagon? In what sense are the witnesses interested while the Pentagon is "independent."

12. Sounds like Mike Brown
he didn't have "independent confirmation" that thousands of people were in the Superdome without food or water...despite his own guy telling him that...as well as the news stations.

Brownie, you're doin' a heckuva job!

Just like the rest of the Bushies.
Heckuva job.

Copter Crash, Bombing Leave Four GIs Dead

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Four U.S. troops were killed _ two in a helicopter crash Wednesday and two from a roadside bomb _ as American ground forces fought insurgents around the city of Ramadi, and a suicide car bomb south of Baghdad killed about 20 Iraqis.

The U.S. command said the AH-1W Super Cobra attack helicopter went down about 8:10 a.m. near Ramadi, killing the two Marines aboard.

The military said the cause of the crash was being investigated. But Associated Press Television News quoted an Iraqi man who said he saw the crash and that insurgents "fired at the helicopter and shot it down."

On Tuesday, a Marine and a sailor died in the city 70 miles west of Baghdad when their vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb, the U.S. command said.
