White House disputes Italy role in Iraq claim

WASHINGTON - The White House on Tuesday disputed accusations that Italian intelligence in a 2002 meeting passed off fake documents, showing Iraq was seeking uranium from Niger, that formed part of U.S. President George W. Bush President George W. Bush‘s case for war against Saddam Hussein .

U.S. officials who attended a September 9, 2002, meeting with Italy‘s spy chief do not recall the issue coming up, said a spokesman for the White House National Security Council. The meeting is central to the accusations.

"No one who was present at the meeting remembers yellow cake (uranium) being discussed nor any documents being passed," spokesman Frederick Jones said.

Bush, in making a case for war in his 2003 State of the Union address, said there was evidence that Iraq tried to buy uranium from Africa to further apparent nuclear-weapons ambitions.

1. Right, everyone else is lying except Bush and his cronies
Isn't that just a tad paranoid?

21. Pants aplame...
This WH thinks it can dictate its own version of the truth to a loyal populace to the exclusion of all nay sayers. Yesterday, Scotty McClellan says "I think I've earned America's trust". They are all obsessed with assuming a great public image as if this was 9/12/01 and people still believed America was caught totally off guard.

Baking up self-serving lies and being paranoid are different.

26. When you are a pathological liar
and you believe your own lies, I think it is paranoia that makes you think everyone else is wrong and you are the only one who is right.

Do you think they call him "Scotty" because "Scooter" was taken?

:p

Monday: Another scandal emerges.

Tuesday: Deny it ever happened. Attack the Democrats for partisan sniping.

Wednesday: Faced with the weight of evidence, admit it might have happened, but it was legal.

Thursday: TERRA! TERRA! TERRA!

Friday: TERRA! TERRA! wedon'tcommentoncontinuinginvestigations TERRA!

12. Niger Embassy Break in in Rome
Did they forget that? The office was ransacked and nothing stolen, except some letterhead was missing. Two weeks later the forged papers were delivered in a manila envelope. "Follow the Yellow Cake Road" article, in Newsweek.

Coincidence?

13. They had to deny it (not really though)
Which pretty well proves it's true.

Not much of a denial either:

"do not recall the issue coming up"

"No one who was present at the meeting remembers..."

17. don't forget...
...Italy is probably still pissed about that Giuliana Sgrena/Nicola Calipari fiasco.
We still don't know, one way or the other, what really happened there.

Gotta wonder if the 2 events,(1 forgery & 1 dead agent) are somehow related.

22. Of course they denied it. That's their modus operandi.
They want us off the track. I've been researching this baby, and I have a gut feeling the killing of Nicola Calipari (SISMI agent who was shot by US troops while springing Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena from her "Iraqi" captors) is somehow linked to the Niger Yellowcake documents/Nicolo Pollari/US Administration connection. This is strictly a gut feeling, but has been with me for days. I think Calipari knew too much about something. Let me know if anyone has done any Sherlock Holmes on this...
