<snip>
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A rocket-propelled grenade attack Monday killed a U.S. soldier and wounded six others in Baghdad, the U.S. military in Iraq (news - web sites) said Tuesday.

A spokesman said the troops from the U.S. Army's 1st Armored Division came under attack while destroying "improvised explosive devices" -- a term the military uses to describe makeshift bombs often left by roadsides to target soldiers.

The death brings to 114 the number of U.S. soldiers who have been killed by hostile fire since President Bush (news - web sites) declared major combat over on May 1 in the war that ousted Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) as Iraqi leader.

1. Sounds like it was a trap to my non-military ear.
Knowing the troops would clear any obstructions, the "enemy" keeps an eye and attacks when someone goes to disarm them.

This really sucks. I hope the guys are extra careful, and start getting really pissed about their needlessly dangerous situation, and start speaking out publicly against this administration.
