BREAKING: CBS To Report Fitzgerald Will Make His Decision Known Tomorrow
http://thinkprogress.org/2005/10/25/decision-tommorow/

CBS’ JOHN ROBERTS: Lawyers familiar with the case think Wednesday is when special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald will make known his decision, and that there will be indictments. Supporters say Rove and the vice president’s chief of staff, Scooter Libby, are in legal jeopardy. But they insisted today the two are secondary players, that it was an unidentified Mr. X who actually gave the name of CIA agent V alerie Plame to reporters. Fitzgerald knows who Mr. X is, they say, and if he isn’t indicted, there’s no way Rove or Libby should be. But charges may not focus on the leak at all. Obstruction of justice or perjury are real possibilities. Did Rove or Libby change statements made under oath? Did they deliberately leave critical facts out of their testimony or did they honestly forget? Some Republicans urged Rove to step down if indicted. Not a happy prospect for president Bush.

1. As with the belief in evolution, we need to put it to a public vote as to
whether anyone should be indited. To hell with facts or truth or anything else. The rule of law is what the majority thinks it is.

22. This scandal just couldn't be any more fun right now
"Mr. X" and foreign spies and exotic locations and treachery and secret codes. It's better than a Bond movie. :bounce: And, of course, the Fitzmas celebration at the end. But I wonder what everyone will have to talk about once the indictments are out and we can't speculate anymore? (Mr. X is Franklin, by the way, according to my secret sources).

32. My favorite part is the contrast between Fitz, the hero, a working class
son of a doorman, who through brilliance and real hard work went on to Harvard and became a principled proscector and then * the blivet, who was born on third, thought he hit a home run, and has, through 'hard work' destroyed and driven into the ground almost everything he's ever touched, and is as incurious and unprincipled as it is possible to be. Wow, it's a novel but it's real.

38. You're right!
I think that's why this story appeals so much to me, too. It's like an old-fashioned story with heroes and villans like Fitz and Bush; or Valerie Plame and Judith Miller for that matter. Valerie Plame worked in obscurity & secrecy to find the real WMDS; Judith Miller found fame & fortune finding the fake ones. In the midst of corruption, greed & pettiness, there are examples of dedication & heroism that we can root for. I think we as a nation are a little desperate for heroes, and this story may offer us some.

60. With some minor tweaking that could be the tagline for the movie
Valerie Plame worked in obscurity & secrecy to find the real WMDS; Judith Miller found fame & fortune finding the fake ones. In the midst of corruption, greed & pettiness, there are examples of dedication & heroism...

I can almost hear that "movie-promo voice over guy" saying something like that in a movie preview.

59. You are 100% correct
the contrasts are remarkable. What a difference a conscience and personal integrity can make. Fitzgerald is a true hero, working for the principle of the issue, and not for ratings.

I only pray that the evidence is overwhelming enough to bring forward indictments, and then convictions. No criminals deserved this more.

reports about unnamed sources' "thoughts".

this reminds of that scene in the desert in Three Amigos when Dusty Bottoms (Fitz) has a full canteen and savors the water (indictments), he even gargles and spits the water on the ground as the near-dead-from-thirst Lucky Day and Ned Nederlander (us) look on. Ned even tries to take a drink from his own canteen and it's so dry dirt falls out of it. One of the great scenes. Anyway. . .

44. MR X, what do we KNOW???
The WH tried to get the journalists to take the blame. The journalists figured this out, and testified (Novak, Russert, Cooper, and eventually, Mata Hari Judy, among others...). They also seemed a little pissed, with the exception of Judy (sleeping with Scooter?) about the way the WH was trying to railroad them.

Who close to the WH has forged a close relationship with journalists over the years? A relationship based on trust, friendship and willingness by the press to eat the shit you spoon-feed them? Why, the WH PRESS SECRETARY, of course!!!

Who was Press boy when this shit went down? Not McClellan...but the outsider, ARI. The front-man sucker, which he was from Day One.

Ari is as likely as any of them....

I was intrigued to read one of Fitzgerald's briefs, which makes reference to the leak being "apparent retribution" or "apparent retaliation" for Joe Wilson's public criticism of the Bush administration.

I wonder whether Fitzgerald could include a count of civil rights violations, alleging that the government attempted to silence free speech by punishing Wilson.

Indictments Coming Tomorrow; Targets Received Letters Today

An uber-insider source has just reported the following to TWN (since confirmed by another independent source):

1. 1-5 indictments are being issued. The source feels that it will be towards the higher end.

2. The targets of indictment have already received their letters.

3. The indictments will be sealed indictments and "filed" tomorrow.

4. A press conference is being scheduled for Thursday.

The shoe is dropping.

More soon.

64. How come every story that says someone "thinks" the indictments are coming
gets headlined in way to suggest a more definitive report. This one says CBS to Report Fitzgerald WIll Make His Decision Known Tomorrow". But the story itself actually simply has CBS suggesting that lawyers close to the case "think" Fitz will announce something tomorrow.

Now, it may well be that tomorrow (actually, now today) will be the day. But even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

This is purportedly someone "not in the White House but high up in the administration"--according to Charles Goyette, local talk show host on AAR in Phoenix. Didn't catch the name of his guest who said X was not IN the White House. Speculation, but intriguing.

71. Best move for Bush: fire Fitzgerald
Pulling a Nixon in 2005 would be a matter of a few news cycles' splutter.

Tame Democratic pols would bleat a bit, and then slink off to study NASCAR voting habits.

The recently-aroused press would gripe at first, but that's exactly when you invade Syria. Then your Terry Morans will fall silent while the networks roll out the decrepit generals to teach them the latest weapon systems names.

Sorry; I'm as excited as the next citizen for indictments, but you only need watch the game a few times to realize it is seldom allowed to be played for real. How many Reagan administration members were indicted? Over 100? And whose name is plastered far and wide by sheep in reverence today?

73. Hi Everyone!
I can't stand the wait! I'm really excited, but I tell you, I don't think its all going to come down like we want. It seems every administration has many indictments, and it doesn't go to far, nobody does any real time. It's great to see them go down, but I always dread the fact that all it does is free up their time for more TV interviews, books, and lectures. Not to mention that they'll have their muzzles off and be able to spew whatever garbage they want without real accountability.

I guess I should enjoy the moment more. I'm just nervous and can't wait for the whole house of cards to start falling.

79. So if Fitz made "his decision" today . . .
When does grand jury make "its decision"?
They have to vote on a so-called "bill" if I'm not mistaken.
True bill or no true bill, that is the question.
