Hinchey Asks For Expansion Of White House Probe

Another Southern Tier Congressman not only wants to know who, but why the name of a Covert CIA agent was leaked to the media in 2003. Maurice Hinchey (D-New York) called for an expansion of the White House investigation to include the motive behind the leak of Valerie Plame's identity.

President Bush's Deputy Chief of Staff, Karl Rove, and Dick Cheney's Chief of Staff, Lewis Libby, are considered possible targets of expected indictments from a special prosecutor.

Tuesday, Congressman Randy Kuhl (R-New York) says he hopes the case won't distract from pressing issues, like Hurricane Katrina relief.

"There are too many circumstances that really need to be addressed," Kuhl said. "That would be, again, a major distraction and we can't allow that to happen. So, I fully expect if there are indictments, that there'll be a major change in how the whole interworkings of the White House operates."

Indictments are expected to be handed up this week.

1. You'd expect a Republican to down play the investigation. True to form.
And get on with giving more public funds to their friends in the name of anything that will work?

2. What does he mean by "expansion" of the WH investigation?
Does he mean an expansion of Fitzgerald's investigation? That makes no sense, since he is focussed on potential criminal acts, not political lies and coverups regarding the reasons put forth for waging war on Iraq. That would seem to be the purview of Congress, but as far as I know, there is no such investigation ongoing, so how could it be expanded?

4. They'd better look at the damned motive.
Or will it be like the 9-11 scam..."we don't want to assign any guilt"...and the clueless American public bought it.

5. Right on the ball, our Hinchey.
That's like predicting the handicap after the race.

Is somebody going to let this guy in on the secret investigation that's been going on for 2 years?

6. no, let's not be distracted by BushCo traitors and profiteers
who have looted the nation leaving (so far) $8 trillion in debt and a $333 billion deficit.

The Repugs cannot add two plus two and come up with not enough in the Treasury to help the victims of Katrina, Wilma and others. Not that the Repugs care about the poor, anyway. They want to go ahead with more tax cuts for the rich---Impeach BushCo, All!
