Activists to 'Die' Outside White House
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Filed at 2:54 p.m. ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Cindy Sheehan and other peace activists plan to ''die symbolically'' for the next four days outside the White House to represent the American soldiers who have died in Iraq.

Sheehan, whose son Casey died in Iraq last year, organized the vigil as the U.S. military death toll in the war neared 2,000.

''I'll be laying down and not getting up,'' Sheehan said Tuesday to a small crowd in which the number of journalists exceeded the number of protesters. ''When they let me out, I'll do the same thing if I get arrested.''

''Two thousand families have been destroyed for nothing,'' Sheehan said. ''Enough is enough. The killing has to stop sometime.''

2. I'm with her on this because

no one else is calling attention to the problem.

She is doing acts like the Civil Rights Movement.

I recall people saying, "That is crazy. Why would Dr. King and all those people get themselves put in jail?"

"Why would Dr. King go and speak to some Garbage Collectors?"

and during Vietnam...

"Who is John Kerry? Why are those college kids acting so crazy? Why don't they stay in school and learn something."

Call attention to the problem by any legal means necessary.

WASHINGTON - Cindy Sheehan and other peace activists plan to "die symbolically" for the next four days outside the White House to represent the American soldiers who have died in Iraq.

Sheehan, whose son Casey died in Iraq last year, organized the vigil as the U.S. military death toll in the war neared 2,000.

"I'll be laying down and not getting up," Sheehan said Tuesday to a small crowd in which the number of journalists exceeded the number of protesters. "When they let me out, I'll do the same thing if I get arrested."

She said she hoped 2,000 people would attend the vigil throughout the week to represent each American death. Each participant was to receive a wrist bracelet with the name of a fallen soldier.

17. I prefer the fence Idea too
Perhaps she was afraid they would torture her like they do other activists they can't remove, but I think the "dying" stunt will just draw derision like it usually does. Who ever thought up "symbolic deaths" and half of the insipid chants at protests must be republican operatives. (kidding)

From Karen: Update from vigil in front of the White House. There’s about 400-500 people.

Dick and Karen are there watching and bearing witness. About 15 people there are opposing Cindy Sheehan and are very vocal, loud and strident and even hateful. The police have been great.

At this moment in time Cindy is speaking. She’s telling people what’s going to happen, that there’s a choice for people to lie down in a “die – in” in front of the White House. There will be 3 warnings for those who lie down. Those who want to get arrested should remain lying down.

Hear lots of yelling in the background. People are lying down now. People who want to be arrested will remain in the middle. Several people they know do plan on getting arrested including 2 people from the “World Can’t Wait” and some of the Code Pink women will also accompany Cindy in this.

There’s a real solemnity. People are lying quietly.
