Dean blasts Schwarzenegger for catering to special interests
Dean blasts Schwarzenegger for catering to special interests

(10-16) 23:13 PDT Hayward, Calif. (AP) --

Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean urged voters to reject Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's special election measures Sunday, calling the Republican governor "the captive of special interests."

Hundreds of grassroots party activists packed a union hall in Hayward to hear the former presidential candidate's speech.

Dean told the audience that turning out in large numbers to vote against four initiatives backed by the governor in the Nov. 8 special election would resonate nationwide.

"The right wing chips away at us piece by piece and bit by bit ... the first sign that we're going to beat back the right wing of the Republican Party is to defeat these right-wing initiatives on the ballot in November," he said.

1. I feel like Dean is the voice in the Dem wilderness
I support Dean's efforts to reform the Dem Party but it would be nice if we could bitch slap the other Dem leaders to follow Dean's lead.

2. What, exactly, is Dean doing to "reform" the party
without the input of other leaders?

I seriously doubt he's doing it on his own or at the behest of bloggers like Kos.
