Terror tip for rich (Homeland Security/Feds EMailed The Connected?)

The city's rich and well-connected were tipped off to last week's subway terror threat days before average New Yorkers, the Daily News has learned.

At least two E-mails revealing the purported plot were sent to a select crowd of business and arts executives early last week by New Yorkers who claimed to have close connections to Homeland Security and other federal officials, authorities said.

<snip>

"I have just received a most disturbing call from one of my oldest friends from growing up in Washington," one E-mail began. "He called with a very specific caution to not enter or use the New York City subway system from Oct. 7 through 10th."

A second E-mail sounded a similar ominous tone: "As some of you know my father works for Homeland Security, at a very high position and receives security briefings on a daily basis.

"The only information that I can pass on is that everyone should at all costs not ride the subway for the next two weeks in major areas of NYC."

6. Makes perfect sense to me. The rich are the only ones who the
government recognizes as 'people'.

7. It seems like there was a terror threat. Bloomberg had to issue a warning.
Edited on Thu Oct-13-05 10:49 AM by CottonBear
<snip>

One of the E-mails was dated Oct. 3 with a 6:05 p.m. time stamp, about 90 minutes before Bloomberg was fully briefed on the threat, a police source said.

The early warning infuriated several police officials, who noted that Homeland Security officials had challenged the credibility of the threat after the city and FBI warned the public.

"We're briefing the mayor, ratcheting up security, talking about when to go public - and Homeland Security is downplaying the whole thing while their people are telling friends to stay out of the subways," a police source said. "It's pretty bad."

8. I see it differently
these people because of their connections were privvy to the information for their connections, its no surprise and not that big of a deal. I don't think its necessarilty a big deal or any proof of classism, just information getting out via email.

HOWEVER I would like to know if any of these people leaked these emails in trying to assist those in peril or whether the leaking of these emails prompted Homeland Security to do something... Its just weird.

9. LOL what a hoot
no big deal or any proof of classism?

My middle class young pal in Manhatten has several email accounts and no mention of terror alert early on any of them for him....

14. My conduct or the conduct of the overlords who tipped off the rich
that there might be a problem?

Maybe the story is just a feeble attempt to take the speculation of KO on the timing of terror alerts off the minds of people. See, there REALLY was concern; we warned our rich pals...

15. thats not what I mean
just try and think about the situation and how email messages are spread, it will be started by an upper class person because said person's father works in HS.... how does logic dictate that this is some rich person conspiracy????? its just a matter of being connected.... or not.

HOWEVER it really does prove that HS had the information days before and no actions were taken to prepare the citizens of NY.

13. Anyone heard of Viral Marketing?
It's by far the most efficient way these days to spread propagander and sow confusion.

So many of the racist emails circulating after hurrican Katrina had exactly the same style of writing, I expect they originated in Bushco Brainwashing Inc.

16. Yes. This is how Bush got his fingerprints off a bogus terra alert
His propagandists send out the emails to the NYc's intelligencia, many of whom are either players in the media world or have high level contacts. The rumor has time to incubate beforeBush's speech. Bloomberg knew that the media were going to be all over the alerts and that NYers were likely to become more afraid--because the threat is repeated by seemingly believable source, and also angry, because of the class issue. So he issues an alert, which gets terra 24-7 coverage. Whenever someone questions the timing of the alert, Bush's speech, the bad news about Rove and Libby(which was expected, remember), and Bush's sinking poll numbers, the administration can answer that the warning didn't come from Homeland security.

I mean think about it--how does an Iraqi hoaxer (who has since disappeared) coordinate with an annonymous source in the Department of Homeland security.

The NYDN really ought to identify who sent the email.
