Metro strike day 12: Protesters descend on Sentinel (Santa Cruz)
By GENEVIEVE BOOKWALTER
SENTINEL STAFF WRITER

SANTACRUZ — Hundreds of students, bus drivers and protesters descended upon the Santa Cruz Sentinel building Friday evening, beating windows, chanting and claiming biased coverage.

Supporters of the Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District’s striking bus drivers gathered about 4 p.m. at UC Santa Cruz and walked to the Pacific Avenue Metro Center. There, protesters broadcast through a megaphone their visions of democracy and taking back the media.

Signs with slogans like "Boycott S.C. Sentinel / biased reporting / R-wing newspaper" and "Students support our drivers" peppered the audience. Many complained of news coverage devoted to a College Republicans protest against the bus strike on Thursday afternoon, while an evening support rally went unreported.

The group marched down Pacific Avenue to the Sentinel’s office on Church Street, chanting "we’re fired up, can’t take it no more, free speech is what we’re fighting for." <snip>
