Feds Seize Proceeds From Black Co-Op Sale

CHICAGO (AP) - Federal agents seized nearly $9 million in proceeds from the sale of embattled media baron Conrad Black's apartment on New York's Park Avenue, officials said Friday.

Acting on a warrant signed by a Chicago judge, New York-based FBI agents showed up at the real estate closing Friday and immediately seized $7,908,687. Earlier on Friday, they seized $1,020,000 that had been held in escrow as part of the sale.

The civil warrant said Black derived the money as part of a fraud scheme. He has been charged with no criminal wrongdoing.
