White House: Bush didn`t make God claim
By UPI

WASHINGTON, United States (UPI) -- The White House denied Thursday that President Bush said God told him to invade Iraq and Afghanistan and to ensure the creation of a Palestinian state.

'He`s never made such comments,' said White House spokesman Scott McClellan.

Palestinian negotiator Nabil Shaath says in a BBC documentary scheduled for release next week Bush told him during a 2003 meeting with Palestinians he was 'driven with a mission from God.'

'President Bush said to all of us: `I`m driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan. And I did, and then God would tell me, George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq... And I did.'

Road Map in the Back Seat?

By Al Kamen
Friday, June 27, 2003; Page A27

Imagine our surprise Wednesday to read in the Israeli paper Haaretz (online), that Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Abu Mazen, meeting recently with militants to enlist their support for a truce with Israel, said that, when they met in Aqaba, President Bush had told him this: " God told me to strike at al Qaeda and I struck them, and then he instructed me to strike at Saddam < Hussein>, which I did, and now I am determined to solve the problem in the Middle East. If you help me I will act, and if not, the elections will come and I will have to focus on them."

So who needs to find WMD or a link with al Qaeda when the orders come from The Highest Authority?

Two calls to the White House for clarification went unreturned, but colleague Glenn Kessler did some digging. The Haaretz reporter, Arnon Regular, read what the paper said were minutes of the Palestinians' meeting to Kessler and another colleague, who is an Arabic speaker.

I hate that miserable little prick. Sometimes when he's in a drunken stupor, I whisper funny things to him, usually stuff like free France and install the Dauphin on the throne. I had to stop that. He asked rove-the-evil-one why Flipper needed a chair. Is he dumb or what? But I swear guys, I NEVER asked him to do anything to Afghanistan or Iraq. Never. Come on, he's fucked up everything he's ever touched. And I should know.

Bush: God Told Me To Invade Iraq, Become President

According to the Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz, George Bush told Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas that the President's tactics of the War on Terror came directly from the mouth of God.

Abbas said that at Aqaba, Bush promised to speak with Sharon about the siege on Arafat. He said nobody can speak to or pressure Sharon except the Americans.
According to Abbas, immediately thereafter Bush said: "God told me to strike at al Qaida and I struck them, and then he instructed me to strike at Saddam, which I did, and now I am determined to solve the problem in the Middle East. If you help me I will act, and if not, the elections will come and I will have to focus on them."

Bush and Blair - the betrayal

The key to the road map's success was US support for the Palestinian prime minister, Abu Mazen, indispensable as a partner for peace, but regarded as a threat by both Sharon and Arafat. At the June summit on the road map, Bush told Abu Mazen: "God told me to strike at al-Qaida and I struck them; then he instructed me to strike at Saddam, which I did; and now I am determined to solve the problem in the Middle East. If you help me I will act."

21. His comments about striking Afghanistan and striking Saddam because God
told him to were reported in the media what, a year or more ago? I don't recall the WH issuing a disclaimer then.

The bit about Palestine is a new thing and may have been a creative add on...since when has George shown any real interest in a Palestinian state? (Or have I missed something?) That may be why the WH responded this time.

It would be truly odd for this to come out of the blue to the Palestinians.

Somebody needs to hustle him off right now.

Maybe there are so many whispers around D.C. now that the drinking thing has come out that allegations like these seem more plausible than they did two years ago.

Someone in my family is similarly afflicted. No one like this should ever be in a position of power. Also, the problem may not be evident to any but the person's family or very close associates. Bush must have been either drunk or on the verge of complete meltdown to have said something like this to the Palestinians.

Didn't that nut Robertson say something like this, too? Didn't he say that Bush told him that God told Bush that there would be no casualties?

(What was the last thing Scottie called "Absurd?" I seem to remember it was something that turned out to be true?)

Thursday, 6 October 2005, 19:58 GMT 20:58 UK

White House denies Bush God claim

The White House has dismissed as "absurd" allegations made in a BBC TV series that President Bush claimed God told him to invade Iraq.

President Bush is said to have made the comments in 2003

"He's never made such comments," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said. The comments were attributed to Mr Bush by the Palestinian negotiator Nabil Shaath in the upcoming TV series Elusive Peace: Israel and the Arabs. Mr Shaath said that in a 2003 meeting with Mr Bush, the US president said he was "driven with a mission from God".

Holy war?

"President Bush said to all of us: 'I'm driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan. And I did, and then God would tell me, George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq... And I did. "'And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East. And by God I'm gonna do it.'"

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, who attended the meeting in June 2003 too, also appears on the documentary series to recount how Mr Bush told him: "I have a moral and religious obligation. So I will get you a Palestinian state."

that the wording reported is ever-so-slightly off - such as Bush referred to "the Lord" rather than "God". But McClellan and his cohorts of highly trained liars are quite happy to pretend nothing happened at all.

39. Can't take it back now Georgie
It was an odd location for George W. Bush to make his big announcement. No television cameras were present. Yet, as Mr. Bush walked into the offices of the Lapp Electric Service plant in Smoketown, Pennsylvania, he must have known that his words would be reported around the world.

There, waiting to talk to Mr. Bush, was a group of about 60 local Amish, one of whom had made a quilt for the visiting President. Mr. Bush shook a few hands, tried on a straw hat, and then made his announcement to the small crowd.

"God speaks through me," he said. (We're not making this up. This story was first reported in the local papers, including the Intelligencer Journal and the Lancaster New Era, on July 16, 2004.)

God speaks through George W. Bush? Gosh. That sounds crazy. That sounds like the President of the United States, the most powerful human being on the Earth, the man who commands the greatest stockpile of nuclear missiles and other weapons of mass destruction ever created, believes that he is a prophet chosen by God to represent all that is good and right in the Universe. When George W. Bush says, "God speaks through me," it sounds as if George W. Bush really believes that whatever words happen to come out of his mouth are the words of God himself.

the way it is today, it's impossible to DENY what you say cause...there it is in black and white or in living color.

I hate it when these crazymakers try to lie and deny my reality. It really gets on my last nerve.

61. George, You Drunken Piece of Questionable Existence
Edited on Fri Oct-07-05 07:00 AM by TheWatcher
You lied about saying this years ago, and you're lying now.

Every single word that comes out of your mouth is a lie. You couldn't embrace the Truth if it came in a Bottle Marked 90 Proof.

I know you've probably never prayed a day in your life, but since you are faking it for the psychopaths who drool at the thought of you killing anyone who doesn't fit into their narrow view of life, you might want to Pray for immortality.

Because one day, and if there is a hint of justice left on this Earth it will be very soon, God IS going to have a talk with you. And what will happen in that meeting I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Not even a filthy, degenerate waste of life like yourself, whose justification for existing is completely non-existent.

62. And then God finally spake unto
his rather incompetent - and soon-to-be-unemployed- servant George and said, " Hey Numbnuts, don't you realize that I haven't spoken to anyone directly since the Book of Job? Jesus Christ, you are one dumb fuck.Oh, and yeah, you did tell everyone that you and I were -what's that word you use - coversatiating - about the Middle East. And I know, because I'm omnisicient. What a moran."

66. no, he didn't Because Scotty will deny it.
It is a figment of your imagination. As is the BBC story. As is the lack of WMD. They are there. Cheney told him he remembered invoicing Saddam for them.

Feel better?

67. So why the denial now, but not when the quote was reported
initially?

Imo, because the political context at home has changed. At the time such a quote played to his religious reactionary rightwing base - (ala - Amen W!) while now... it sounds as crazy and mad and megalomanical to some of the religous reactionary rightwing base as it does to the rest of us. So this time around... deny, deny, deny!

73. my explanation, for what it's worth
during the campaign in '03-04, most MSM would ignore it, because they were caught up in really important issues like - Dean screams, CBS, swift boats and Viet Nam. That, plus a very savvy use of terra-alerts whenever bad news made it out into the MSM.

that message was a coded signal to the evangelical fundies to come out and vote. It told them that George was still one of them. With honors. and cream and strawberries on top. It increased the vote, as intended, in the south and from all evangelical churches.

They (scotty and the spinners) were able to avoid it because they successfully put the spotlight on other issues: Terra, Iraq, WMDs, saving democracy with a Patriot Act.

They no longer have that luxury. The focus, lately, has been on Bush himself. Once that happened, words like these suddenly confirm what the general public suspects, that Bush is not one with reality. His universe is either bottle based or fundie based, but it is not our reality. Now, such a statement becomes dangerous - kind of like piling on after the tackle was made out of bounds and long after the whistle blew. It makes Bush appear not sane, not reliable, not a leader. What was a perfect tool earlier, becomes a major potential problem. They have to deny it. They have no other choice.

68. Original Story Hits Reuters!
Palestinian: Bush spoke of Iraq as divine mission
:)

07 Oct 2005 09:38:35 GMT

Source: Reuters

JERUSALEM, Oct 7 (Reuters) - A Palestinian leader quoted George W. Bush as saying God told him to invade Iraq, but said he did not take the U.S. president's comment literally and saw it only as a reflection of his faith and commitment.

The White House dismissed as "absurd" the remarks attributed to Bush by Deputy Prime Minister Nabil Shaath in a BBC documentary series recounting a June 2003 meeting he attended along with Mahmoud Abbas, now Palestinian president.

Shaath said he stood by his recollection of Bush saying he had been "driven with a mission from God" when he sent U.S. troops into Iraq and Afghanistan and also lent his support to the eventual creation of a Palestinian state.

That would be my headline. Wonder how the fundies are taking this? I mean either God talks to shrub, or he doesn't. Either God is lying, or shrub is.

So basically, George just threw God under the bus!

Edited on Fri Oct-07-05 06:28 PM by geniph
about the admittedly silly statement, "I did not have sex with that woman." Isn't this infinitely worse? "God told me to smite them and I did" one day, then "I did not either say that," the next.

George, Thou shalt not bear false witness. Ever hear that one before?

Do they truly have the arrogance, the unmitigated, brass-balled audacity to simply DENY any public statement, no matter how well authenticated, the second it becomes controversial? This is, what, about fifteenth time they've done that? "We never said there were nukes in Iraq." "We never said Mission Accomplished." "The dog ate my homework."

What a crock of shit! How can ANYONE, ANYWHERE believe ANYTHING that comes out of this administration?!
