Hispanic groups upset that Bush passed chance to put Hispanic on high court

WASHINGTON A slap in the face. That's how some Hispanic groups are viewing President Bush's nomination of White House counsel Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court.

The feeling is that the president passed on some highly qualified Latino judges in favor of his White House counsel.

The former president of the National Council of La Raza says while members of the Hispanic community contribute to the country, they are being "ignored for a vital role on our third branch" of government.

18. WE put him in office?
Bush made significant gains among Latinos, but they were most significant in California and Texas, states that were not in the balance. Even if we DID "put him in office," perhaps the ineptitude and lip service of the Democratic party had something to do with it, along with Bush's "faith"?

I can think of many groups that would have to rank above us in blame for putting the jackass in office. Let's begin with Diebold and rural whites. Oh, and men in general.

7. Being Latino myself
I think La Raza is nuts half the time. Didn't they want Alberto Gonzalez to be SCOTUS, turning a blind eye to the guys atrociaous and despicable record. There are way better real Latino Judges for whom they could have lobbied. It's almost like the NAACP wanting to lobby for OJ to head PBS just because he's black and if in theory he was close to the administration

8. Simplest explanation for passing over Gonzalez: "Attorney-client privilege"
Gonzalez was replaced as Dubya's personal attorney by Harriet Miers when he succeeded Ashcroft at "Justice". Thus Rove and company now would have a bigger blanket for dodging hard questions with Gonzalez than with Miers.
