(Ari) FLEISCHER INKS $500K (Book) DEAL
http://nypost.com/business/kelly.htm

ARI Fleischer, the former press secretary for President George W. Bush, has become the second member of the president's inner counsel to ink a book deal.

He just auctioned off a memoir of his White House years for what industry sources said is an estimated $500,000 advance from William Morrow.

That puts him behind former Bush aide Karen Hughes, who became the first inner circle member to sell a book, for a reputed $1.5 million from Viking unit of Penguin Inc.

The lawyer who orchestrated the latest auction is Bob Barnett, the same attorney who commanded the multimillion-dollar book deals for Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton.

17. c'est vrai
but, Stephanopolous had fallen out with the Clintons, and this book was, as I recall, fairly critical of them. and Bill wasn't up for reelection.

19. Ari's book to come out in 2005
It will probably be out in January or February 2005," said Claire Wachtel, executive editor at William Morrow. Morrow is part of HarperCollins, owned by News Corp., which also owns the Post.

"It's not going to be a kiss and tell," said Wachtel.

Barnett and Morrow officials would not comment on the price.

Fleischer did not circulate a book proposal, as is the norm for authors - especially first-time authors. Some thought that his former bosses may have encouraged him to put it out in 2005 to guarantee that nothing blows up during the 2004 presidential campaign.

6. Ari's dad is a democrat
I loved the quote he gave to Time Magazine about his son being a Republican. "Well, I guess it's better than being a drug dealer." Or something along those lines.

12. Father's exact quote
"If they wanted to eat, they had to be Democrats," joked Alan Fleischer, a retired executive search recruiter. "I guess if Ari had to rebel, being a Republican is better than being on drugs, but not by much."

Edited on Fri Oct-24-03 11:04 AM by Flying_Pig
and is rewarded with a big dollar book deal/ I tell you, is this a great country or what! The bald bastard should be arrested and tried for treason and sedition, right along with his old employer and cronies, then put in a dank prison where he could learn the art grabbing his ankles.

In over 35 years of listening to WH press secretaries, never have I hated one more that Ari. No morals, no compunctions, just complicity and lies, for which he will now be rewarded. It's sick I tell you, sick! This nation is sick!

11. I can't think of a more boring book
(except Karen's). Ari will praise the chimp shamelessly throughout the book. Look for overusage of the words "leadership" "steely" "moral clarity" "unity" "patriotism" "purpose." I'm sure you all can come up with other words Ari will repeat over and over as he describes his bullshit version of the chimp up close and personal.

:boring:

Geez, I thought a million was kind of the going rate for an insider book of this kind. Why are they lowballing him? Must be because he's a lowball kinda guy.

20. Yeah. I agree; it's low. I'm sure Helen Thomas could do a lot better!
Gee, I'd love to buy her book. Lots of interesting stories she could tell. She could even name the 'top 10 WH press secretaries'. I'm sure she'd have Ari at the very bottom! We already know what she thinks of Junior.

And, a book by Helen would certainly out-sell both Ari's and Karen's books...combined!

:-)
