One Iraqi killed, six wounded in Baghdad market shelling as Wolfowitz tour
BAGHDAD (AFP) - US Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, a driving force behind America's presence in Iraq (news - web sites), was starting a four-day tour of the strife-torn country as one Iraqi was killed and six wounded in an attack on a Baghdad market.

The hawkish Wolfowitz's visit comes as US commanders warn they are facing a tougher fight on the ground and the US-sponsored interim Governing Council demands greater power from the coalition.

<snip>

The endemic violence poses a severe threat to the US-led reconstruction effort, even as international donors were gathered in Madrid. Six months after the fall of Saddam, unemployment is estimated at between 70 and 80 percent.

In the past month, demonstrations by the unemployed, many of them soldiers from the dissolved Iraqi army, have become a frequent occurrence.

3. I suggest
he goes off for a wander around Bahgdad on his own so he can get a real feel for the place.

He can engage some locals , tell them who he is and his role in their new found freedom and ask them how much they are enjoying it.

6. He can hand out fresh tiny American flags to replace...
...the ones the Iraqis have worn out from waving at US troops.

I have a clear memory of that creep on some right wing tv show (MTP?) right before the invasion showing off the itty-bitty American flags that the US was distributing to the Iraqi people. He said the Iraqi people would be waving them with joy at the US troops.

I am certain Wolfowitz is insane; I know he is evil; I just don't know if he really is so naive that he believes what he says or if he just lies everytime he speaks in public.

7. Can't see why not!
They would definitely want to thank him personally. He's brought so much hope to our world, really helped to focus humanity on the wonderful future we all anticipate. <yikes>

8. I'm still upset about the Wolf/CSPAN interview; New Yorker host
saying, 'We are lucky for Wolfowitz to come to this interview and he is very brave for coming.'

1. Why is a worker who we've been paying his salary for 25 years and hundreds of First Class trips around the world; why are we lucky for him to answer questions from the people who pay his salary and who he is responsible too; why are we lucky?

Did Wolfie stop off in Jerusalem to hang out with Richard Perle and Ariel Sharon? Perle was in town just last week, can't imagine they'd pass up a chance to hang out and plot some more ways to secure the ME for Israel.

U.S. Pentagon adviser Richard Perle, center, pauses during a news conference following a meeting of conservatives from the United States and Israel, in Jerusalem Tuesday Oct. 14, 2003.
