Sky TV suspends journalists over Iraq war report
LONDON (Reuters)

Two journalists from Sky News have been suspended over allegations that they "faked" a television report from a British Royal Navy submarine during the Iraq war, Sky News says.

The report purported to show the preparation and firing of a cruise missile from HMS Splendid. But a BBC documentary crew filming on board at the same time said it had been specially staged for the benefit of Sky's camera and no missile was fired.

Nick Pollard, head of news at Sky, said on Thursday: "We are fiercely proud of our reputation for accuracy and integrity. This allegation has come as a complete surprise and will be fully investigated."

Those involved in the story have been suspended while the investigation takes place, said Sky.

The pair could not be contacted for comment. Both the BBC and Sky, which is controlled by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp, declined to name them. ---

1. I don't see much difference between this
and our staged aircraft carrier landing. Let me get my glasses.

3. It's a poorly constructed sentence
This is what they meant:

"Both the BBC and Sky (which is controlled by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp), declined to name them."

4. The "HMS Splendid?"
ROFLMAO! Could they have named the boat anything more British?

On the other hand, it beats "USS Raygun" hands down.
