Female Suicide Bomber Kills Six in IraqFemale Suicide Bomber Kills Six at Iraqi Army Recruitment Center

BAGHDAD, Iraq Sep 28, 2005 — A woman suicide bomber attacked an Iraqi army recruitment center Wednesday, killing at least six people and wounding 30 in a northern city where coalition forces had routed insurgents in a major offensive this month.

The attacker, who was wearing men's clothing, detonated hidden explosives containing metal balls while standing in line with job applicants at the first of three checkpoints outside the center, said Maj. Jamil Mohammed Sadr, the Iraqi army commander based there.

Insurgents have rarely used women to carry out their attacks in Iraq.

The blast occurred in Tal Afar, 95 miles east of the Syrian border, and it highlighted the difficulty of maintaining security in the towns in the large northwestern region stretching to the border, where insurgents are most active.

2. Now all Iraqi women killed can be counted as "suspected insurgents"
The story said the bomber was wearing men's clothes and blew "herself" up. The blast killed 6 and wounded another 30 - so sounds like a significant explosion. I wonder how they determined the bomber was a woman - don't think there'd be very much left to identify. In any case, now soldiers can shoot women and claim "i suspected she was an insurgent." Will the next story be, "A tall child, wearing men's clothes . . . .", or maybe, a short insurgent, wearing child's clothes . . . .

Assuming, arguendo, that the bomber was a woman, It is no surprise this occurred in Tel Afar, after the brutal US attack on the town. We no longer hear that fool Rumsfeld bragging about pinpoint bombing. We know that a massive attack on a town will kill many noncombatants - a quaint term in itself, used in such rejected documents as the Geneva Convention. It refers to WOMEN and CHILDREN and ELDERLY AND SICK. We will never know what drove this particular woman to take her own life, but one realistically expects her husband, brother, father or children were killed and she wanted revenge. We all know about revenge - that's why Bush Jr. went into Iraq - not weapons of mass destruction.

4. Or maybe she had a reason: rape
Many Iraqi women would die rather than live with the memory of rape.

5. There's a line from "Les Miserables" that applies here.
Something to the effect of, "you know you have lost the war when the women start emptying their chamber pots on the heads of your soldiers from their balconies" or some such.

God, this is awful.
