Doyle, wife plead guilty (Oregon repuke state senator)
More of those republican values

SALEM — Once one of the most powerful figures in the Oregon Legislature, disgraced former state Rep. Dan Doyle on Friday pleaded guilty to filing false campaign finance reports after he admitted diverting campaign funds to personal use.

A sentencing hearing will be conducted by a judge at a later date. The state Department of Justice indicated it plans to recommend a prison term for Doyle.

The Salem Republican was charged with 11 counts of filing a false campaign finance report, with each felony charge carrying a maximum prison sentence of five years and a fine of up to $125,000.

He was initially accused of overstating his spending to campaign service vendors by about $60,000 in 2002 and 2004 and diverting that money to personal use. However, state officials said Friday that the amount of money Doyle attempted to conceal actually was more than $150,000.

The names change, but the stories remain the same.

3. The way Oregon Republicanites have been in the past few years,
I wouldn't be surprised if they introduced a bill to outlaw that department on the grounds that it "wastes money" by persecuting poor, honest legislators.

(I'm being only slightly sarcastic. I lived in Oregon from 1984 to 1993 and watched the deterioration of the OR Republican Party from being the party of Mark Hatfield, Tom McCall, and other moderate Republicans to being the party of Bill Sizemore and Lon Mabon.)

4. "The names change, but the stories remain the same." Isn't that the truth?
There's a wildly flagrant case in Miami concerning Republican City Commissioner, Dr. Miriam Alonso, and even her daughter, Miriam Alonso. Big Miriam encouraged Little Miriam Alonso to get into politics and they BOTH appropriated their own campaign funds.

Big Miriam gave a delightful down payment for her first house to Little Miriam from her own campaign funds, and furnished her own house, as well as furnishings for her rental properties. When judgement went against her, the city of Miami backed a truck up to her house and loaded her furniture into it, as it actually belonged to Republican campaign contributors.

Her's is only one of others almost identical in Miami, a MEpublican dream of Paradise. Whole lot of corruption going on.

From the original post on Mr. Doyle:
In a statement issued earlier this week, Dan Doyle said he became so involved in his legislative duties he neglected his law practice, and used campaign contributions to support his family and law firm.
(snip)
How sad. Poor, poor Republican. Awwww. :nopity: :nopity: :nopity:
