GOP leaders press Bush to name hurricane czar

(White House-AP) September 8, 2005 - GOP leaders say they're urging President Bush to name a disaster czar to take over the federal response to Hurricane Katrina.

...

Emerging from a meeting with Bush at the White House, Hutchison and Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum said there was a good deal of discussion about a Katrina czar.

Hutchison says the idea would be to put someone "on the ground" in the Gulf for six to nine months who could make decisions and cut through red tape.

She denies the idea was motivated by the bitter criticism of FEMA director Mike Brown over slow-arriving federal aid. She says in any disaster, there comes a point when it's time to start focusing on the longer term.

2. I've come to realize that when Washington DC uses the term 'czar'...
...when what they really mean is 'PR Flack'.

And why would they appoint someone to handle Katrina relief when there is already somebody getting paid to do so? Either Brown is doing the job, or not. If not, I don't want to pay him anymore.

unreal. just plain, unreal. here is a concept, how about these cronie assholes appointed by moron* just do THEIR FUCKING JOBS!!!! How about that for a concept? So does these mean anytime we have a fucking disaster in this country there is going to be yet another "czar" appointed? Will there be a tornado czar? or how about a snowstorm czar? or even better a cold weather czar!!! yeah that's the ticket, appoint some asshole to take care of all the seasons and all the various different disasters!!! Or since you are so high on death and destruction, how about a bloated body czar or a burned beyond recognition czar? You fucking murder whores!!!

here is a czar that should be fucking appointed, how about a accountability czar????? huh? How the fuck about that, you fucking halfwit, useless bastards???

God damn it! I seethe with deep emotional hatred for these no account war mongering racist death dealers.

12. Czar-in-a-box
I know, it's neither a czar, nor related to the hurricane. But this thread reminded me of the way republicans think, if I may be so general. Everything is neat and tidy, and can be placed in a box. That goes for God, human beings, the environment. I think it's called selfish and shallow. It's really a shame that two plus two equals anything. Because in society it doesn't work that way. It's always shades. No black and white. That's for later. That's for the day God weeds out the rotten apples. And even then, I think there will be shades. Bush and Hitler get the condo together with Vlad, in the part of hell that has no ventilation.

14. Declare war on hurricanes
Bomb those suckers out of existence. Sure, the enemy is fluid (so to speak) and mobile, but that hasn't stopped us in Iraq (at least that's what they claim). And if that doesn't work, we'll just blame (hold on, no blame game here) - we'll just hold the message responsible (whoops, we don't hold anyone responsible for anything) -- well, we'll just attack the friggin' messenger and attack the damn National Hurricane Center. That has the word hurricane in it, so it must have something to do with those little bastards. That'll teach that hurricanes not to mess with 'murica. Your either killing hurricanes or your with hurricanes.

47. Oh, how exciting! how ingenious! It certainly addresses all the major ..
.. problems!

Why, I was just thinking to myself, how could we possibly avoid another catastrophe like this, the next time the President is on vacation, and the Secretary of State is shoe-shopping, and the Secretary of Defense is busy at the ballgames, and the Vice-President is occupied by all those tiresome details that require attention when one is buying a mansion? Yes, I was wondering, how can we prevent this from happening the next time Congress will give money to build bridges to nowhere in Alaska, the next time the Army Corps of Engineers is occupied in Iraq, and the next time the state militia is off for some reason in the Middle East? What in the world can we do, the next time the puppet heading FEMA and his Homeland Security boss are incompetent political hacks?

An hurricane czar! Well, I slapped myself on the forehead, and I thought -- that's it! Yes indeed! What could possibly be more American than a czar?

51. "Senators press Bush on hurricane relief czar"
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 07:18 AM by Bridget Burke
WASHINGTON, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Two Republican senators pressed U.S. President George W. Bush on Thursday to appoint a top official to lead the long-term recovery from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.....

Bush earlier met with Republican congressional leaders at the White House, where Sens. Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas and Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania urged him to pick someone to lead the administration's much-criticized recovery effort in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama....

Various names have been mentioned in Washington for the job, such as former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, former Secretary of State Colin Powell and retired Gen. Tommy Franks, former head of the U.S. Central Command.

62. If Colin Powell were brought in, it would be to try and whitewash
the federal government's responsibility in this, it's as simple as that. He lost any credibility when he deliberately lied to the world and showed his only loyalty was to bush not to the American people.

I don't see bush bringing anyone in over top of HS head or FEMA head because that would be an admission of errors at the top and bush doesn't do admissions.

65. It is a bit "cute" for my taste and really
looks silly when they turn out to be useless tits.

66. No, thanks
Just what we need: to expand the government even more by adding another overpaid, underqualified, useless Bush crony piece of shit.

I'll pass.

68. In keeping with all those other appointments,
It would have to be the worst possible person for the job he can find. We're living in a mirror universe, after all. Let's see, who would that be....

73. How about a KATRINA CZARINA?
That has a nice little ring to it, eh, Bushie?

No more goddamn task force heads or political appointees! No more czars or czarinas! No more levels of bureaucracy to f*ck this up even more than it already has been f*cked up (is that possible?).

Eff this sh*t ...

And if they HAVE to do it ... appoint Jimmy Carter. He'll get this thing done. And if he's not afraid to go into a nuke plant in the middle of a nuclear accident, he's not afraid to go to chemically altered New Orleans!

74. Karen Hughes for Katrina Czarina. Why? She's an Amazon, and can
move felled trees with her bare hands.
