Iraqis cheer U.S. death
http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/07/16/otsc.whitbeck/

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Major combat in Iraq was declared over more than two months ago, but U.S. troops in the country are being killed on an almost daily basis.

CNN Correspondent Harris Whitbeck in Baghdad has details of the latest attacks and measures under way to improve security.

WHITBECK: We have a couple of incidents to report. The first one occurred earlier morning. One soldier was killed and three were wounded when the convoy they were traveling in, on Highway 1, west of Baghdad, was hit by an explosive device.

The convoy had just passed wreckage of an abandoned vehicle when an explosion was heard. One truck in that convoy was destroyed, and the soldier who was killed was in that truck. Those who were wounded were evacuated to a military hospital.

When that explosion was heard, a group of Iraqi civilians, who were nearby, gathered at the site of the aftermath were watching what was going on.

And when they apparently realized that this was an attack on a U.S. military force, they erupted in cheers. And that cheering went on for several minutes.

Well...
It's not like life has gotten BETTER in Iraq, now is it?
When the people of Iraq are saying, "At least under Saddam
we had schools, food and water, despite the sanctions
against us..." then you know there is a BIG problem.
Both the soldiers and the Iraqi people are fully aware that
the situation is designed to support corp-RAT interest, and not human
beings.
The gig is UP!

2. The backlash from 'shock and awe' will go on for years.
These people have suffered so many loses.

3. How long until a US soldier fires into the cheering crowd?
Those boys and girls are under a lot of stress over there. The heat. The fear. The frustration. I doubt they enjoy seeing the Iraqies cheering at the death of one of their comrades.

How long until one of them loses his (her) head and empties an M-16 into the crowd?

4. Not long, I'm sure
If the folks at home can't distinguish between the people who actually attack us and the people who just think maybe it serves us right, then I don't expect soldiers in battle will have any better luck at it.

Bad, bad mojo.

6. I wouldn't sympathize with one who did such a thing...
That would be a war crime.

7. Easy for you to say. Ever been where these guys are?
Hot, dirty, thirsty, lousy food, threatened, frightened, homesick, sexually frustrated, betrayed, can't understand the language, can't tell friend from foe, and now listening to cheers over their fallen friends from the very people they were told would welcome them. The war criminal will be the Commander in chief who put them there!

5. Appalling footage will arise before long.
Soon, we will see Mogadishu-type scenes, and the media will cover them. They will make a telling counterpoint to Bush's aircraft carrier campaign appearance in May...

8. So overwhelming aggressive force isn't a deterrent?
Fear doesn't cow people into submission? Who knew? :eyes:

Whenever some wingnut suggests that the US was attacked because "they" thought we were weak and wouldn't strike back or that "maybe we'd sue", this story is a good counterpoint.

10. Fortunately we have the "bring 'em on" policy to improve things in Iraq.
Fuck Bush. I cannot blame the Iraqis for cheering an American invader's death and I do not know whether this type of thing will cause the American people to demand that Bush bring our troops home. Fuck Bush. I fear that it will not. Fuck Bush. I also fear that there will be a horrible day for our troops before long where the attacks are numerous and coordinated and have the support and cooperation of the Iraqi people. Fuck Bush.

11. They hate the Americans for their freedom ...
And the way they overstay a welcome, as well. No turning back now, though -- and no foreseeable shortage of problem populations in need of attitude adjusment. Lining up for their dose of Texas justice.

"More Iraqi Resistance Groups Emerge Warning Foreign Troops to Stay Out" by Omar Al-Faris Jul 15 03 JUS/ Another two previously unheard Iraqi resistance groups have emerged, warning countries not to send troops to Iraq as anti-American sentiment grows inside the country. … There is no shortage of groups with hatred for the Americans both inside and outside of Iraq. …

12. 40,000 x 100 = 4,000,000 guerrillas who will attempt to kill our children
If the media isn't telling you this than they're corrupt and should be prosecuted under RICO. If the Bush Crime Family isn't telling you then impeach them all and put them in jail.

Iraq is a clan-tribe society. Very close families and tribes. A cousin is the same as a son or father or mother or daughter. They've lived their lives on the same ground for centuries. (Very difficult for an American to understand this feeling because we move around a lot and we are aliented from our families.)

Anyway, if you kill one person in a tribe you're going to have at least 100 family members who will attempt to kill our children in uniform who are trying to steal wealth for The Bush Crime Family.
