"This war could go on forever, no matter how unpopular it gets. That's very like Vietnam: a stale, hopeless occupation," Ellsberg, 71, told The Salt Lake Tribune on Sunday.
Ellsberg also said the Bush administration misled the public about the threat of Saddam Hussein (news - web sites), a tactic similar to what he said the Johnson administration took nearly 40 years before.
"It was clear we were being lied into a war again," he said. "To see Congress sleepwalking into another war was disheartening."
