WP: Officials Correct Bush* on Indonesia
President Bush misspoke when he said last week that the United States was ready to "go forward with" a new package of military training programs with Indonesia, according to a White House official questioned about the president's remarks.

Bush said on Indonesian television that new military programs could be launched because Indonesia had cooperated in an investigation into the killing of two U.S. citizens last year in the eastern Indonesia province of Papua.

The comments caught U.S. officials by surprise. Asked to explain Bush's remarks, a senior administration official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: "We want to move ahead with increased military-to-military cooperation with Indonesia, which is in both of our interests.

(snip)

During the same interview, Bush also mischaracterized Congress's continued opposition to such military training. Bush said that "for a while the Congress put restrictions on , but now the Congress has changed their attitude."

In fact, opposition in Congress to military training programs with Indonesia grew stronger this year after the possibility of Indonesian military involvement in the Papua attack was raised in a closed-door hearing in May. The hearing also included testimony from a CIA analyst who discussed intelligence indicating that military personnel were seeking to withhold evidence from FBI agents.

3. I guess his handlers cannot control everything he says.
I really fear for our country if this man is put in office for another four years. I mean look what he's doing to us now, what's going to happen if he has nothing to lose.

4. Send this idiot back to Kennebunkport!
He needs to perform a job earning an honest living...whilst doing something constructive to clear his brain. Is this clinically possible? Would anyone hire him without references?

5. Bush did not misspeak, he lied... He also takes a page from the Reagan
playbook with the attitude of Congress don't mean squat (Iran Contra).

Or, he could possibly be so starved for approval that he just said what he thought someone else wanted to hear.

9. Have they corrected him about Phillipine democracy yet
HGe seems to think they're some shining example of democracy.

What they are a shining example of is crony capitalism, embezzlement, bribery, etc. Sort of like waht * wants the USA to be like. But it's not called Democracy.

10. They should have
"translators" right up there on the stage with the whistleass - this way they can provide IMMEDIATE interpretion and corrections whenever "Bootsie" open his piehole....

or better yet - have Bootsie claim to have lost his voice, and then have a stand-in to read the speech
