Six US soldiers have been killed and five were wounded in roadside bombings and shooting attacks across Iraq over the weekend, the US military said on Sunday.

A roadside bomb killed three US soldiers and wounded another who were on a patrol mission late Friday in Tuz, some 180 km north of Baghdad, the military said in a brief statement.

One soldier was killed and another wounded in another bombing in west Baghdad on Saturday, the military said.

In another separate roadside bombing, one soldier was killed Sunday and three others were wounded east of Rutbah, 400 km west of Baghdad, the military added.

One soldier was found dead of a gunshot wound on Friday, the military said, adding an investigation was underway.

Blasts kill US soldiers in Iraq

Roadside bombs have killed five US soldiers in a weekend of attacks across Iraq while a sixth soldier was found shot dead, the Pentagon reports.

In the deadliest attack, a bomb went off on Friday evening in Tuz, about 180km (110 miles) north of Baghdad, killing three and wounding one.

A fourth soldier died on Saturday in Baghdad and a new attack west of the capital on Sunday killed one.

A soldier was also found dead from a gunshot wound in Baghdad on Friday.

16. What does 'found dead from a gunshot wound' mean?
Does that strike anyone else as odd?

Reminds me of the self-inflicted wounds that cause the death of Private LaVena Johnson, 19, of Florissant, Missouri in July. The official word was what? self-inflicted, not suicide, being investigated.

27. 48 years of native Texan here
and the first time I ever heard more than a sentence about clearing brush from any rancher/farmer/whatever the hell it is he does on that little patch of land.

it's not a lifelong job, rather one task among many.

kinda like going on and on about cleaning the toilet.

2. Remember . . .
during the Iranian hostage crisis how the lamestream media pounded democratic President Carter day after day with a count of how many days had gone by as the US staff was held hostage?

So what is the difference here? Could our "beloved media" not use the same numerical count method to bring pressure to bear on the current president?

"Funny" how the LSM felt no reluctance to hammer a democratic president.

R.I.P., comrades.

17. I had to search for it.
Edited on Sun Aug-14-05 12:14 PM by mariema
I heard on BBC news while I was still half asleep and when I looked at breaking news on Yahoo I didn't see it. It wasn't on CNN.com or Google News. I searched Google news to find it. It was so disheartening to see that our soldiers deaths are no longer breaking and enduring news in the MSM.

11. Do our troops ever get a chance to fire a shot of their own?
They're getting picked-off one-by-one. And our Commander-in-Chief sure is on top of things for them - not.

14. That's what makes a guerrilla war so hard to fight
By and large the Insurgents get to pick and choose where and when they attack our troops. They hit and then vanish into the cities and towns. When our troops launch an sweep the insurgents go to ground or go someplace else. It was described in Viet Nam as trying to kill an gnat with a sledgehammer.

21. The saddest thing is how many of our political leaders have failed us
by not calling for an immediate end to the war. This is why you and me will still be talking about casualties this time next year.
