Schwarzenegger Redistricting Rejected
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 6:15 p.m. ET

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- A state appeals court on Tuesday refused to put Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's attempt to change the redistricting process back on November's special election ballot.

The measure seeks to take away state lawmakers' power to draw congressional and legislative boundaries in California and instead shift that responsibility to a panel of retired judges.

2. I think that changing the redistricting rules would be a good thing if...
all states had to follow the same rules. Until something similar is done in Texas, I wouldn't want it to happen in California. It would be just another example of the Right having their cake and eating it too.

23. Doing to CA to what DeLay did to TX was was one of Arnold's "assignments"
along with torpedoing the Enron settlement and disenfranchsing the public employees. His reward was to be a vice-presidency slot. Well, one out of three isn't bad...

kicked his butt (to use his words) also! Poor Ahnie, no reason now to waste $50 mil. I know! LET'S JUST CALL THE WHOLE THING OFF! In my county alone, the special election would cause 50 county workers to be pink-slipped. Let that weiner pay for it if he wants it. We'll still vote NO on everything he wants. I can't believe he and Turdblossom thought they were going to "Texas" California. What egos...what jokes! LOL

Nah nah nah nah ya dumb repugs! :spank:

:hi:

He's just glad that his recall isn't on this non-sensical special election that he called that is a waste of tax payer money...he'd be terminated at a higher percentage than Gray Davis.....guaranteed....There's a lot of "Buyer's remorse" going on here in CA.....then again, what surprises me is didn't they see what they were getting? It was obvious to me...then again, I live in a county that voted 97% against him....

14. Californian election reform activists also recently beat back the worst
of the Diebold election theft machines. Schwarzenegger's APPOINTEE as Sec of State Bruce McPherson was supposed to get that done for ease of vote stealing, and ran afoul of some California patriots (200+ plus turned up at the Sacto meeting; thousands wrote). The Diebold machines had a 10% failure rate in tests, and were sent back to the drawing board. (McPherson was appointed after a Bush Cartel 'black op' against the elected Dem, former CA Sec of State Kevin Shelly, who had sued Diebold.) The fight against the worst of Diebold (touchscreens) is not over yet, by any means (--as nothing ever seems to be with the Bush Cartel--they just keep coming back with their billions and billions and billions in rightwing funding and stolen tax dollars). But, victory #1. Now this. This, too, may not be over--may go to the CA Supreme Court (--I'm not sure about all the deadlines involved, to get a new ruling and hold an election--McPherson will sure help out if he can.) But, hey, this is victory #2 on the redistricting scam. Hot damn!

The corruption in the election system--billion dollar boondoggle of electronic voting--is very deep, and, unfortunately, it is bipartisan. (Shelley was one of the few exceptions in the entire country). The fact that major Bush donors, Diebold, ES&S and Sequoia, are counting all our votes with secret, proprietary programming code is a HUGE SCANDAL. Think about the Dem Party leaders' SILENCE on this! It is mind-boggling. In any case, the public is gradually getting word of mouth, person to person, and through our alternative news networks, and the Dems, for all their corruption and collusion, tend to be more responsive to constituents than Bushites (who couldn't care less--what do they have to worry about? --guaranteed election, compliments of Bush buddies).

We need...

--paper ballots, hand counted at the precinct level (Canada does it in a day! --although speed should NOT be considered, only ACCURACY and VERIFIABILITY)

or, at the LEAST..

--paper ballot (not "paper trail") backup of all electronic voting, strict auditing (10% automatic recount, at least) and strict security, and NO "TRADE SECRET," PROPRIETARY SOFTWARE! (...jeez!)

Only then will the Federal Government begin to be responsive to the will of the majority of Americans.

My favorite stat--I will never, never forget it: 58% of the American people opposed the Iraq war BEFORE the invasion. Feb. '03. Across the board in all polls. Before all the lies were exposed, before the full cost and horror of it were known. 58%!

We didn't trust Bush then. We were not fooled. We were DISENFRANCHISED.

27. Shelley was a significant loss to the cause.
I was royally pissed when that happened - and very happy over the new Diebold development (remember, those fuckers threatened to sue me once, so FUCK THEM).

I also agree that the mostly-silent Dems, with some exceptions, anger me. I mean, WTF? Don't they get that THEIR seats are doomed if they do nothing?

40. Appeals court keeps Schwarzenegger's redistricting measure off ballot
Appeals court keeps Schwarzenegger's redistricting measure off ballot

By STEVE LAWRENCE, Associated Press Writer

Wednesday, August 10, 2005

(08-10) 00:58 PDT Sacramento, Calif. (AP) --

A state appeals court refused to put Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's attempt to change the redistricting process back on November's special election ballot, prompting the governor to charge the ruling "ignored the will of nearly one million Californians.

The governor's ballot initiative seeks to take away state lawmakers' power to draw congressional and legislative boundaries in California and instead shift that responsibility to a panel of retired judges.

Supporters submitted enough signatures to qualify for the ballot, but they used two different versions of the wording during the certification process. That was a "clear violation of the constitutional and statutory procedures for the circulation of an initiative petition," the 3rd District Court of Appeal wrote in its 2-1 decision.

"The proponents caused the problem in this case by their own negligence in circulating a different version of the initiative measure than that submitted to the attorney general," the majority ruling said.

43. Ha ha ha!
"Ignored the will of nearly one million Californians." What about your other 35 million (or so) constituents that did not sign the petition, Governor? I guess you're only concerned with the will of the people that actually agree with you...typical Repuke thinking.

This guy is such a loser, and is looking more and more like a lame duck every day. I can't wait for California to give this guy the boot come election time!
