NYT: Discovery of Stored Fetuses and Stillborns Roils France
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/04/international/europe/04france.html

PARIS, Aug. 3 - The French health authorities have found the remains of 351 stillborn infants and fetuses that were stored illegally in the morgue of a prominent children's hospital, some for more than two decades, according to health officials.

The mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoë, described the discovery as being "as surreal as it is illegal."

The government has ordered an investigation into the discovery at St. Vincent de Paul Hospital, said the minister of health, Xavier Bertrand, who described himself as "enormously shocked" by the find.

"I want to share profound emotion and indignation in the face of such a discovery," he told French television Tuesday evening. "The situation demands that we find the truth."

4. That will no doubt lead to the
fundy imbeciles calling this another holocaust and, of course, symbolic of the French culture of death. (lest anyone forget who was responsible for bringing RU486 into the world)

Wait for it.

5. French fear cover-up over babies' bodies: Independent
French fear cover-up over babies' bodies
By Alex Duval Smith in Paris
Published: 04 August 2005

The French government is desperately attempting to quell fears that macabre medical experiments are being carried out in the public health service after the revelation that 351 foetuses and stillborn babies were secretly preserved in formalin in a Paris hospital .

The discovery at Saint Vincent de Paul hospital of jars of preserved "anatomical pieces" - aborted foetuses and babies, as well as the body of a child which was three days old when it died - was made public on Tuesday by the Health Minister, Xavier Bertrand. But claims by public health officials yesterday that the store at the hospital was an "administrative mistake" fuelled suspicions of a cover-up.

Mr Bertrand was clearly shocked when he announced that some of the "pieces" preserved at Saint Vincent de Paul were 25 years old. He confirmed that parents had not been informed of the practice, which had continued until this year. He added that French law clearly stipulates rapid incineration or burial for embryos, foetuses or babies born dead or aborted because of malformations or ill-health.

Dominique de Villepin, the Prime Minister, has announced two formal inquiries and a criminal investigation has been launched.

6. More macabre babies: Dead babies find shocks Germany
Dead babies find shocks Germany

Police were alerted after remains were found in a fish tank

German police are holding a woman suspected of manslaughter after the bodies of nine new-born babies were found buried in a garden.
The 39-year-old woman is believed to be the mother of the children found in Brieskow-Finkenheerd, in Brandenburg state, near the border with Poland.

Police officers with sniffer dogs were searching the site for further remains.

The grim discovery of little bodies found buried in flower pots and buckets has shocked Germany.

It is thought that the babies were born, and died, between 1988 and 2004.
