U.S. military admits error in news releases
Statements had similar quotes from 'unidentified Iraqi'

(CNN) -- The U.S. military expressed regret Monday for issuing news releases about two separate attacks in Iraq that included almost identical quotes attributed to an unidentified Iraqi.

In both statements, the military quoted an Iraqi calling the attackers "enemies of humanity" and vowing to "take the fight to the terrorists," the latter an expression President Bush frequently has used in speeches.

In the first news release, issued after a July 13 Baghdad bombing that killed mostly youngsters, an unidentified Iraqi spoke of terrorists attacking "the children."

In the second release, sent out after an attack Sunday near a police station in the capital, an unidentified Iraqi referred to strikes on "the ISF," or Iraqi Security Forces.

2. Amazing to see the Minipeace acknowledge a stumble...
Edited on Mon Jul-25-05 04:19 PM by Concerned GA Voter
...Especially when that stumble fits into the much larger pattern of systematic disinformation.

This was no clerical error. The Minitruth's falling down on the job. They pepper all of their releases with stuff like this that, in reality, was probably never uttered in the first place.

When the lie's so big
And the fog gets so thick
And the facts disappear
The Republican Trick
Can be played out again
People, please tell me when
We'll be rid of these men!

6. Golly, what are the odds?
I'm glad to see the military admitted that they've gone to their old reliable stand-by of "making shit up" to describe their progress in Iraq.

And for those who would like to excuse this as an honest mistake, isn't it curious that the military would find even one unidentified Iraqi who was so good at parroting administration talking points about "enemies of humanity" and "taking the fight to the terrorists"? It apparently went over so well, that they deciced to re-cycle the very same comments two weeks later.

Talk about pissing down my leg and telling me it's raining.

Once we get that Zarqawi fella, the Iraqi people will be free. The Pentagon says so. Solution to terrorism in Iraq: Get Zarqawi. End of problem. Thank you and have a nice day.

11. Why is this in 'World'?
Why on earth did CNN put this in the international section?

My guess would be that they don't want to push the story too hard -- otherwise, they'd have to admit the extent to which they rely on news releases to create their newsprograms.

12. In other news ...
"The return of competitive football (soccer) to Baghdad is a good sign that normalcy is returning to our city," said one Iraqi man who preferred not to be identified. "Soccer is beyond politics. The game occupies our memories and our dreams for the future. I think all of us here want to see our teams playing on the world stage."

"That we can enjoy attending a game, safely and without security issues, goes a long way to convince the rest of the citizens that normal life is returning," the man added. "The citizens of Iraq will see this and be proud of the progress our new government is making," he said."

I like Unidentified Iraqi Man. He is always patriotic, but also he has good insight - he always manages to see the bigger picture and help me to see how the day's events fit into the grand scheme of things. In short, he always manages to find the perfect thing to say.

He reminds me alot of myself, when I was younger: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=159&topic_id=2983#3003

13. Awww, I LOVE this guy
Speaking of the strong election turnout, an unidentified Iraqi man said, "Now that the insurgents have failed to steal the election, we must make sure the Western journalists fail to steal it."

If I weren't married, I'd ask Unidentified Iraqi Man out on a date, just to soak up his wisdom.

18. "Unidentified Iraqi man" sounds a lot like your "average freeper moron"
Same propagandistic messages, same idiotic comments, and same hatred for the "librul media." It totally threw me off when "Unidentified Iraqi man" said that we needed to "take the fight to the terrorists." Did he also say "so we don't have to fight them in our streets"? Some propaganda templates just don't work.
