Bloomberg calls on Court nominee to support Roe
July 22, 2005

In a rare display of defiance of the Bush administration, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Supreme Court nominee John Roberts should publicly embrace Roe v. Wade or he won't get his support.

Moments after he was endorsed by a group of abortion-rights advocates Thursday, Bloomberg fine-tuned his view of Roberts, saying a woman's right to choose was too important to ignore.

Standing on a sandy path outside Kings County Hospital Center, Bloomberg declared his position after the National Abortion Rights Action League endorsed him for mayor, saying he would watch the nomination process with care.

"And I tell you what I will be listening for -- a clear indication that he accepts Roe v. Wade as the law of the land," he said. "Anything less than that, any sense that a moderate conservative voice might be replaced by something more extreme, is simply not acceptable."

1. I get the feeling that women will have to re-fight this battle.
Odd as the Bush's were always for womens rights until old Bush got on ticket with RR.

3. Well, if Roe is overturned, birth control restricted or banned,
maybe some men who still don't get it, will wake up.

If this occurs, EVERY male who impregnates a female would need to be identified via DNA verification and be made to support that pregnancy and resulting child for their lifetime or go to jail with mandatory castration for repeated "offenses!" --So whatcha think now, REPUG men (and some "liberal" males willing to sell women out for political expediency?) When you can no longer have heterosexual sex, I just imagine you'll come around to the fact that women need to have full rights and control over their own body. All of a sudden "controlling" women to make you feel macho, in the name of a cellular "pre-life" just won't sound quite so good. :eyes:

6. You are right of course
So many men think this is just a women's issue, but it certainly takes two to tango, and THEY will be affected by this too.
