AP: Extremist group praised U.K. bombings

LONDON - When Prime Minister Tony Blair met with two dozen Muslim religious leaders to discuss a new package of anti-terrorism bills, the radical Islamic firebrand Anjem Choudary was not invited.

.....

But Choudary hasn't stopped espousing the ideas, and his screeds against Blair and British foreign policy open a window into the ideology of Britain's radical Islamic thinkers, in a country known as a center of Muslim immigrant intellectuals of all shades.

In an interview with The Associated Press on the same day Blair met with his moderate co-religionists, Choudary blamed Blair's government and its "crusader views" of Muslims for the July 7 suicide bomb attacks against the London subway and a double-decker bus.

He also said the British public shared the blame for ignoring al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden's warning last year that Britain would be attacked if it did not withdraw troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. And he lit into Blair's meeting with the moderates.

1. You should change the headline
They didn't exactly "praise" the bombings. LBN headlines should be identical to the headline of the article posted, which was: "Choudry: Britain to blame for bombings".

More:

""Those four individuals who carried out the operation cannot be blamed solely for 7-7," said Choudary, a former director of Muhajiroun and now director of the Sharia Court of the United Kingdom and chairman of the Society of Muslim Lawyers. Sharia is Muslim law as derived from the Quran.

"I think ultimately, the British foreign policy - the occupation of Iraq and the support of the state of Israel - and the draconian laws which they have introduced over the years in this country - have a lot to do with why 7-7 took place. And I think one has to wake up and look at the reality," Choudary said in the telephone interview."

6. Blair 'liable for UK bombings'
Edited on Wed Jul-20-05 02:42 PM by ECH1969
London - The leader of a defunct Islamic militant group blamed Prime Minister Tony Blair's government and its "crusader views" of Muslims for the July 7 suicide bomb attacks.

Anjem Choudary, leader of the disbanded Muhajiroun extremist group, also said the British public shared the blame for ignoring al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden's warning last year that the country would be attacked if it did not withdraw troops from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Omar Bakri, the Muhajiroun group's radical founder who was apparently being closely watched by British security forces, had on many occasions glorified suicide bombings in Iraq and by Palestinian militants in Israel.

Choudary had been reported as saying that Islam regarded as legitimate the kidnappings of Westerners in "occupied Muslim lands," such as Iraq.

7. I really dislike the guy
because he blames the British people, when most of them did not vote for Blair and most of them were against the Iraq war.

Fair enough to make a political comment against Blair but not against the British people.

8. Yes it always seems like 'the people' are the ones who always get
the worst of it..Look at Iraq, Afghanistan,Spain,England and USA..the bombings never seems to get the people we go after or they go after..just the average person that wants to live a nice life and really want none of this..the only one that has been caught is Osama and that was only after we bombed most of the country and killed a great many citizens.
